Hi,
Does anyone have a picture of the steering cable mount that is near the tiller arm?
I am wondering if my boat as an original cable and original position of the cable mount?
Was the '89 steering cable mount any different to the previous years (with dual exhaust)?
So many things have been changed on my boat by previous owners :(
Here is a photo of my mounting...
Regards,
Greg

Greg - I don't have a photo (my boat is in storage) but what you show looks correct from memory.

Hi,
Thanks very much.
I also remember a hold on the top side of the bracket - thought that the cable clamp could maybe also be mounted there. The clamp just seems quite close to the hull.

Is that really your picture? It looks familiar! Either way, the clamp is correct- its the same one that was on my '90. No hold on the top of the bracket on mine- the exhaust hose just sat on top of it.
Dual exhaust 2001's (through '88) probably didnt have a clamp like this- they would have attached the steering clamp to the main stringer. I like the bracket much better... no chance for water intrusion!

Haha... I just found that pic on my PC - I thought it was mine! Ooops
I actually checked the JPEG EXIF data, and it is not my camera (I don't own a Canon SD400).
That's for the clarification - I'll use the pic to compare to mine. I have play somewhere in my steering, and I just want to check that everything is stock first. I also have a rattle sound when I have the steering at full lock, and accelerate.
Thanks very much,
Greg

I'm looking for one of those, if anyone has one.

Bruce, if you cant find one, it wouldnt be hard to make. It uses the strut bolts to mount (so it acts as a backing plate). A piece of angle with 4 holes on the base and a single hole for the clamp bolt on the vertical side would work just fine.

Greg - Again from memory (not so good anymore) mine has the exhaust hose tied to the support plate with a big nylon wire tie, or something similar.
It isn't anything fancy, that is certain!
