I had seen a picture somewhere of Riva's storage facility. It was a cave used as a wine cellar/boat storage because of the perfect conditions for wood boats. Just the right temp and humidity for long erm storage. ------------- You can’t change the wind but you can adjust your sails |

Luch, Cold molding has been around for quite some time but I'd have to say the Gougeon Brothers were the big pioneers in developing thier West brand epoxy system. They were big into ice boating and wanted to build lightweigt streamlined shells. Cold molding really is just like buiding a fiberglass boat except instead of glass cloth, wood veneers are used. The term "cold" is used because of the previous method of hot molding wood hulls. Many small 12 to 16 foot hulls were made with the hot technique. The process involved placing layers of wood veneer and phenolic resin over a mold, vacuum bagging it and then putting it into a retort.
