At least not here in Texas. So far 7.9 inches. A record for a single day of snow. At least the canopy was cheap. We don't really buy things rated for a snow load around here. No damage to the boat, I don't think.

Here we go again. They are calling for snow in Atlanta. Hasn't even touched the ground yet and schools are closing. I grew up down here and I still laff at the sillyness of it all, but then again we see it so seldom people still drive 85mph on the "Watermelon Raceway"

Atlanta airport is a major hub for Northwest (now Delta). It took us a day and a half last year to get back from Florida, because 1-1/2' of snow closed down the airport.
This has been a strange year for the mid south in terms of snowfall. Here in SE Michigan, we're down 20" or so.

You're getting all our snow. Maine is missing all the storms this winter. We're way below average. There's hardly any snow on the ground. Two people got killed this week at the ski area we go to due to icey conditions. Vondy, I hate the look of your boat out in the snow. I wish you could send it up to us.

Hah! That's funny. He's a Miniature Pincher. Get's cold very easy. We have a coat for our full size Doberman as well. They don't have much built in insulation. The coats are great for them when we are camping.

Yes, total of 12 inches now. Lot's of limbs down. Something like 100,000 folks without power. Never seen anything like this that's for sure.

I'm already tired of it after one day. Don't see how you northern folks do it. Hell I don't even see how y'all ski up there. I don't even want to touch the water unless it's 80 degrees. And how long is your season? 3 months?

All depends on your tolerance level. The ice around here only sticks around for 4 months. If I waited for 80 degree water my season would be 0 months!

Ski Season can go from December well into April. Boating season is mainly July and August, although there are some nice days in May, June and September, although at my lake the water is still in the 50s Memorial Day weekend. Boats run great in it!

We did a polar bear ski a couple of years ago, first Saturday in December. One of the guys in the boat (71 years old) took a slalom run, and then was driving 3 hours north to go snowboarding. I know it's hard for you life long southerners to believe, but some of us love the cold weather. This weekend will be typical; snowboarding tonight, Quads, snowmobiles, and go-carts on the lake tomorrow and Sunday. Next weekend we have a huge Ice-Golf tournament. The weekend after that we have AMA sanctioned ice track motor cycle races. I like the warm climates, but I love living in Michigan (except for the economy).
To describe it another way, the weatherman was telling us we would get 10" of snow Wednesday morning. Most of my friends were disappointed that we only got 6.5. (I know there's a joke in there somewhere)

I do enjoy the cold, for a while anyway. Good time for camping, hunting, etc. But it's a "wet" cold down here. Very much so this year. Seems like it hasn't stopped raining for months. We don't normally get snow, we get slush and ice if anything. No snow sports of course. Other than dragging someone on a piece of plywood behind a 4 wheeler.

And when you live in an 80 year old house, you welcome the warmth after a couple of months.

Steve,
Speaking of ice racing, here's a favorite of mine. Plow a irregular course on the lake. Get together with 4WD friends along with spouses/girl friend/boy friend. Then have each participant run the course separate on a timed basis BUT, the driver is blindfolded and the partner gives the directions!! Big time laughs but can lead to divorse!!! The best is with the rag tops. You can hear all the yelling clearer!!

Snow missed us Okies this time. It's definitely been a pretty active year. I've lived here since Spring 2005 and this is the most winter storm activity I've seen. I'm glad we've had a little more snow than freezing rain / ice, tat's for sure!

Pete,

That sounds like a blast and would be hilarious to watch. Kinda like watching the recreational boaters loading and unloading at the boat ramp on Memorial Day. Many a divorce has initiated at the boat ramp, that's for sure!

That sounds like a great idea. We're heading out this afternoon to plow the rink and track. I'll suggest we try that in the go carts or quads. But knowing our crew, we'll mix up the couples. I don't tell my wife how to swing a golf club, for fear she might Tigerize me with it.

You b@st@rds! I'm way up north and my snowmobile is parked beside the house on the GRASS. I wish we had some of that snow.

Looks like a few skiers died at Sunday River this week Bruce. I can't imagine how icy it must be up there.

Peter, I didn't see that. That must have been the 28 yo that died Thursday. I've only skied twice. Once you have a thaw and all that rain, the whole mountain turns to ice. They can cover it with man made, but it gets skied off. They really need a couple feet of snow. Besides being icey, there's not much on the ground in the woods either. Everything is exposed.
