I have a 1990 nautique w/pcm trans. The fluid is not red, and the id tag says sae 20-20 w engine oil grade sf/cd. Is this the proper oil/fluid to use? Also this is my first nautique.

My 90 was also oil, not trans fluid. I was always told use what it came with.
I believe a couple people have converted, though. I am not sure of the process to do so.

Straight 20w oil is the original fluid specified for the early 1.23's. Its ok to convert to ATF... stick with conventional Dex/Merc or Dex III (do NOT use synthetic). It will take a few flushes to get it completely swapped out, but no worries- the fluids are compatible according to Eric. Judging by the condition of my '90's tranny when I disassembled it (1200 hrs) Id say it was ok to keep running the 20w if you want... if you can find some!

When you say fill to the top, do mean completly full, then @operating temp. flush? If so how many qts. will I need?

yes to the top to flush, this will dilute the 20 wt that much easier, maybe 8 qts?
