| My family is looking into getting a 1999 pro air nautique or sport/air nautique. The boat will be used about 90 % of the time for wake boarding. How significant is the hull difference between the two? Is it worth getting a pro air nautique? |

I guess the question is, what will you be doing the other 10% of the time. I have not spent extensive time in the Pro Air. One of my neighbors owns one, and I have been out in it a handful of times. At least three neighbors own sport/air nautiques. From my perspective, the main difference is that the waterski wake is lousy in the pro air. I know the total wake control hull on the pro air is different than the sport/air and it seems that it always puts up a bigger wake. I think there is some difference to the size of the wakeboard wake (pro air somewhat larger) and it also seemed to me that the shape was a bit different (pro air seemed a little steeper, not as rampy). However, with a air/sport weighted down, I did not see as much difference in the wakeboard wake as I did in the unweighted skiing wake between the two. If you ski at all, I'd definitely go with the sport/air. My $.02 BKH ------------- Livin' the Dream |

You might check into the hulls in more detail. I thought the hulls were the same but Pro air had some water tanks, tower and graphics stuff and Sport had the same hull but no tower or tanks. Now the diff between Super Air (V-Drive) and Pro Air (Center engine) is Huge and worth noting. Check into it at any CC dealer, those guys know. ------------- Bryan A. Texas 88 Ski |

I had always heard that the Pro Air was more or less a flop as far as wakeboarding hulls go..hence why it was only made a couple of years. It ended up not performing as well as the others or the manufacturers intended it to.
From all my research done, planning for my next boat purchase when the credit gets better, a Sport or Super Sport is the way to go. 1) 93-97 Sport Nautique (open bow, dd) same hull as current Air Nautique. 2) 94+ Super Sport Nautique (open bow, v-drive) same hull as current Super Air Nautique. The Sports are more common and can usually be found for 13K and up. The Super Sports are more rare, thus more expensive usually around 18K plus if you find a good deal. Personally, I will be looking for a used Super Sport, adding a tower, and will pretty much have the "wake" equivalent of a 50K boat, but at a fraction of the cost. In addition, if you do ski some, the small wake will still be there unlike the "Pro" hulls as indicated above. There has been many discussions on wakeworld.com and wakeboarder.com as to the flaws with the Pro Air hull, just search. |

Texas 88. The Pro Air Nautique was definitely a different hull. It was the same size as a sport nautique. However, the bottom was significantly modified to create what they thought would be a better wake. If I remember correctly, the total wake control hull involved a large strake on each side molded into the bottom of the boat. This made the nose of the boat ride hire, and helped push the stern down. They only made this boat two or three years. I don't now why they terminated it, but apparently has been discusssed on other forums. The V Drive Super Air quickly became the defacto wakeboard boat. As for an Air nautique, you are correct. Same as Spoort nautique. Change Graphics, add ballast. In some cases a tower was added, but not always. Also had an option of a very long ski pylon. Billgatesceo, Gotta disagree with you. I have a 2001 Superair. The waterski wake is terrible. You can do it, but it's not much fun, particularly at speeds below 36 mph. IMO, if you're looking for a boat to ski and wakeboard, go with the Sport/Air/Air 216. If you don't ski, the v drive is great. BKH ------------- Livin' the Dream |

| BK...thanks for the correction. I have never skied behind a SAN, so my statements were only based on the fact that is would probably be better than the Pro Air. Thanks for giving us some "real" experiences. I did used to slalom behind a Mobius V, and the wake was pretty small at skiing speed. |
