Mark,
Being a 76 and the 305, sounds like a OMC. If so, they used a unusual pump but some have had luck getting parts from http://www.depcopump.com/ - Depco pump

Sierra 18-3086
or OMC 379475 Should be pretty easy to find as it is the same impeller used in many OMC (evinrude and Johnson) outboards.

Marty will be along shortly to tell you to stay away from non oem impellers like Sierra He missed the river run working on his boat by the dock due to impeller trouble.

Regardign Marty's case, are we absolutely sure the right impeller was bad, or is there a chance that someone gave him bad info on what was the right one. I think that is the more likely situation. I ordered the "right" sierra themostat once and it was nowhere near the right one. Anyway, I got the omc part number impellor from white lake. Can't go wrong there.

By the way, that OMC water pump is an OMC propriatary part, no longer available. When mine went bad I sent it to Depco, they sent it back saying they didnt have the parts to repair it.(which was kind of ironic since their catalogue says they can repair any oddball pump and showed a picture of that exact pump, along with some others) So if it ever does go bad, figure on replacing it. I went with a crank mount.

Larry,
I sent Depco pictures of my pump off the 27 asking them for help. Never heard back from them!! They claim to have something like a 7 million inventory too on the site!! I wonder what would happen if I call them up?? I'm making myself a note to do that Monday morning and will report bad. I'll bet it will go something like "we never got any pictures from you"!!

Pete,

Even tho they couldnt fix it, I really cant complain about their service. I called them up front, they were very helpful and accomodating. I then sent my pump to them, They called back, said they couldnt do it and sent it back at their cost. Hopefully you will have similar luck with them, but that they can fix your pump too.

In Marty's case it was subtle design difference between an oem PCM impeller and the Sierra. The PCM one has a moulded rubber ridge around both sides of the hub and it also radiates outward from the center to the tips of each blade. It must help seal the impeller to the inner wear plate and to the outer cover. Poor Marty spent the whole time we were out, working on the pump. Art Cozier came back and said try this impeller, 5 min later Marty was up and running. I don't know what you'd do in this case if the oem parts were no longer made other than changing pumps.Luckley for me,Depco can get everything for my Jabsco except the brass end plate which I can make if and when I'll need one.

How can I tell if it is OMC? There is a cast number 908872 other than that I can not find any other markings.

Thanks,

Is this your pump (only in blue)? If so, its an OMC.

Yeah, only got the Sierra's because I could get them for $10 CarQuest cost. Bought 6 of those things .
They'll probably work better in the 93 SN- but just not taking any chances. Gonna chunk the remaining 3 I have left.

The left one is the Sierra---
The right one is the BEST one- OEM PCM Impeller

Well, I didn't have the same luck with Depco that you did. I just got off the phone and they did get the pictures. The conversation went something like: "Yeh, we're still laughing at that one. Good luck finding parts. We can't help you." Click!!!

It looks like I'll be modifying the mounting of a newer design pump!!
