Asked and answered, Steve. IIRC, they had an accident with a huge container ship south off the Brisbane coast a couple years ago, too.

It was a bulk coal carrier coming out of the Gladstone Port. It was way off course it appears as if they were taking a short cut to save time. There have also been rumors that the first mate an Captain were asleep at the time. This sounds a bit like a typical Chinese response to blame the individual and cover up the truth.

They cue up to load sometimes there can be up to 100 boats waiting to load. The Chinese import all the good quality coal we can dig out of the ground. They have been trying to buy a major share holding in a couple of our mining resource companies but the government has stopped this happening.

This one is going to cost them plenty. Relations are a bit strained between China and us at the moment as they have convicted a couple of Australian Rio Tinto(mining resource company) executives of espionage.

They seem to have a knack at straining relations! The pet food and baby formula I thought was the worst.

We see more counterfeit computer equipment from those asshats than you can imagine. It is especially bad with Cisco gear, but really across the board. If we don't reverse the mess we have put ourselves into with that country we will be discussing our boats on www.zhengque de chuan fan.com

What amazes me is that when they get caught doing something like the melamine issue the bosses get executed. You think that would put enough fear in them not to do it...greed is a powerful thing.

Watch and see what happens to the mining company in W. Virginia, more fines but no one really responsible for the safety of that mine will be prosecuted and it will happen again and again.

Well, the fines and, I assume, some human decency keeps our mining industry comparatively safe. Certainly not enough so, but in 2008, China lost 6,995 miners in accidents. While Massey has a sketchy safety record, it is a dangerous business and the miners know that going in. The guy in Utah a couple years ago was a scumbag, and they were using an insane practice of mining the pillars that held the mine ceiling up.
