I am getting ready to replace the seals on both the driveshaft and rudder on my 77 Ski Tique. I never did this before so any tricks to make it easy would be appreciated. I assume if you take off the rudder packing nut you can drop the rudder down and lube the shaft. Is this nessasary, and what would be the best lube. I have waterproof grease and "Never Seize" on hand.
Thanks
Roy

Roym - I used Never Seize 2 years ago. I am thinking of adding a grease zerk to mine so I don't have to drop it to lubbricate it.
Do you guys think this is worth the effort?

Chris,
I don't think it's worth the effort. I really don't feel the grease really stays in there very long or does much. If you did put a Zurk on it, I'd go with a remote lube point under the seat or someplace where you could get to it without much effort. Of all the old rudders and ports I've seen, I've never really seen them wear very much. If they do, it's usually from a bent shaft.
As far as the actual grease goes, just go with the most water resistant you can find. McMaster has one I was looking at for the geared RWP for the flexifour. Too bad I can't find the old long fiber water pump grease anymore.

I guess I will just use waterproof wheel bearing grease. That should be as good as anything else.
