| I thought I might grease the steering helm and cable at that end since it is a little tight. Do I just use a basic grease or something special? |

White grease (lithium) is what I think they used originally and I'd use it but really anything that's labeled water resistant would be fine. Good question. I took my entire steering assembly apart, degreased and painted it. a friend of mine had mentioned not to use bearing grease as it was too thick and tightened up his stearing, he says to use only a grease labeled "#2" as its softer and wont tighten the steering.
I seem to remember always using bearing grease in the past with fine results...and by my way of thinking, anything lighter has the potential to wash away easier? anyone else's thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated |

Andy,
The #2 grease is a viscosity rating. 90% of the greases you'll find are the #2. When I bought my steering cable, there was a warning attached that said not to add grease because it would soften the nylon liner. I researched this aspect & found that synthetic grease won't soften the plastic. So I use synthetic brake caliper grease from NAPA to repack the helm. It looked the same as the grease that came on the cable.
