I currently own a 1973 Martinique Correct Craft.

I am looking for a maintenance/repair manual that will help me summarize and winterize it properly.

When I was a child I remember my grandfather connecting a water hose to the boat when it was out of the water in order to run it prior to putting it in the lake. Unfortunately he has passed on, and I am unfamiliar with the procedures to ensure I do not damage the motor in anyway. Is there a kit that I must obtain to connect a water source to the motor?

Any guidance as to how to maintain the boat, and how I could obtain copies of the owner and maintenance/repair manuals in hardcopy or electronic copy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

welcome to the site, up at the top of the page are headers for several links, one is reference, click on it then manuals and that will bring up all the documents your looking for and you will be able to download PDF files of them. Start there and see if you can find your answers there first.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately I looked thru all the posted manuals and cannot find a specific reference to my motor, but there was a manual posted for my 71C Velvet Drive Marine Tranny. So I am half way there. Although the boat was my grandfathers, it hasn't been in the water for over 12 years due to complications with the individual restoring the stringers, floor and interior, and I am basically a new kid trying to learn all the ins and outs of the boat and its internal workings. I feel like I am in high school all over again.

If anyone could help direct me to a repair/maintenance manual for the following motor it would be greatly appreciated. I believe it is a Holman Moody 235, but as I said I am new at this.

The motor tag has the following data on it.

Holman Moody
Serial # D2HM-3289-2-RWT
CIM-235B 4V 09HM ME2
TIM 10*

Thanks in advance, Jim

http://www.marineengine.com/manuals/holmanmoody/index.html - Here is a place who sells reprints of engine manuals. Not much in it, you can use the same specs from other Ford manuals, but if you have any questions just ask.

Sent you a private message, don't know if it was send, so this is just a back up. I was asking if you would be so kind as to email me these posted documents you have posted. I can't figure out how to download or copy/paste them from the forum page.

If you are willing, please email to jamespeter.matthews@usar.army.mil

Thanks, Jim

Why were you on at 11:03 am on a Saturday? Shouldn't you be outside or on the boat? Bad weather?

You have been retired too long from the tip and ring my friend
I'm on vacation this week, I save a day for Memorial Day,and to make up for all those years I HAD to work those days.
So I've been working on it on and off all week. New windshield on,new rub rail on and now I'm wet sanding. The plan was to put it in tommorow, but you know how plans go --

Better post some pics...

Been gone since the end of '03. Almost seems as if I never worked there. Cannot believe how fast the time has passed. You are gonna love it if you ever make the jump. Then you guys can visit here in the winter. You'll love that too!

Need help verifying which motor cylinder is the #1 cylinder to ensure I have the correct firing order, and which direction my distributor will be rotating. The guy who reinstalled my motor after replacing the stringers might have the wires in the wrong order. I believe he has the firing order set as 18426573. If I am looking at the motor correctly and correct with my assumptions below, he has #2 & 5 cylinders mixed up.

I believe the #1 cylinder is the most forward cylinder (comparing the left and right banks), which is on the motor's right bank (starboard side). As far as my distributor, I believe it will be rotating counter clockwise, because I am assuming a "right hand rotation" motor is the same as a "reverse rotation" motor.

My Holman Moody is a 302 right hand rotation motor.
Using the Ford 302-351 service manual posted in the references (closest manual I can find), I cross referenced the firing order from my valve cover tag (18456273) to the manual for the reverse rotation CSG-850 (302 CID) and they are the same.

The manual states the cylinders are numbered from front to rear, on the right bank 1234, and on the left bank 5678. As the manual isn't specific, I am assuming the motor's right is starboard and left is port in their descriptions, am I correct?

Thanks, Jim

Correct again.

An easy way to remember port and starboard is that port is a 4 letter word, just like "left", and starboard , like the word right, has more letters in it than port or left. :)

Your firing order will either be 18736245 or 18456273, so your mechanic definitely has a few wires crossed. The former is the 289/early 302 order, the latter the late 302/351 order. '73 could have been either, though I suspect it may use the 351 FO. My '71 used the earlier one and my '78 used the later one. One clue might be the size of your spark plugs (which I believe corresponded to the switch to the 351 heads and cam- and thus, the FO)... if your plugs take a 13/16" wrench, that would be the old version, the 5/8" plugs are the newer ones. Make sure your firing order assumes a counterclockwise rotor rotation, as viewed from above- this stays the same for both RH and LH Windsors.

Where abouts in CT do you boat?

Jim - TRBenj had a great design to allow hose hookup for running the boat out of water. It involves a T & a garden hose shut-off valve. Costs about $15 to build with brass, less with plastic parts.

Tim - I searched for your design but couldn't find it.

Maybe you can repost?

Chris, thanks for the info.

TRBenj, would love to see what you did and try it on my boat.
