I couldnt list all the calls that stick out this week but a couple do, one of the good ones was, he got the transmission, installed it, filled it up with 3/4s of a qt of oil and took it out, it slipped just like before....i went thru the normal round of questions, he informed me that when the transmission arrived one of the plastic plugs was broken and some of the oil drained into the box. Now first of all i dont ship transmissions with oil, the only oil in them will be some leftover test oil....so figure this one out. stuff like this goes on all week long, btw, he called an hour later and said he figured out the carb was the problem....or was it the low oil?????
another one, tranny is rattling and vibrating my decks, drove 2 hours from here, i didnt do the install...look under at the stuffing box and its moving up and down and making a racket...lift the stuffing box off of the shaft while turning and the noise dis-appeared, someone spent 2200.00 on a bent shaft and didnt get a shaft or did they?, remember i get the trannys dropped at the door put a long block in, primed the pump and could feel the drill pulling oil as they normally do, install the ornaments and put in boat, fire it and no oil to the top....drill 1 inch hole (under suspicion and will replace when i pull it down) in timing cover to peek if plug is missing.. you know the answer, Monday project now one of the better highlights on a Friday afternoon, repaired a transom at the top of the gimble housing, uneven and was leaking, this was 2 years ago, brought it by last year because down near the drain hole was a crack, no problem, leave it and I'll take a look. dig it out and its wet, called him and informed, and now its on his dime, let it dry, its an 1988 VIP, and they get wet at the bottem, they all do. made the repair at no charge to keep the brunstucky troublemakers away. now keep in mind this was an insurance job 2 years ago from a suspected hit outdrive, saved his 500.00 deductible and basically no out of pocket cost to him. calls me today and lets me know he'll be by with the boat in 5 minutes, I see him pull in with the WIFE behind him following. this beoch jumps out of her explorer with her guns loaded. she starts going off, I look at this guy and said, you seriously brought your wife to handle your business? and it escalated, and escalated, many words were exchanged and I held in my F-bombs, it would be worth listenting to a recording of this one. the end of my drive was blocked so he had to back out on a st route with the beoch stopping traffic, she looks at me and flips me off. I could go on and and on, but these were the ones that stuck out and this was only in the last 4 days ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |

Eric,
Don't the 4th of July as well as Labor day weeks/weekends count for "hell weeks" too? Did you get Jessica's trans yet? Confirmation of her "friends" help is needed!!

Pete, basically from may 1st to may 1st lol
bj, everyday sht but escalates more near the holidays. some of the other things that happened in 4 days, rebuilt BBC and installed 2 months ago and got the call Tuesday morning, left bank spitting water, now the guy accuses me of swapping his heads or intake because he hydrolocked the engine, his 30 year mechanic told him so, bad head gasket, crack in the head and so on, so i cornered him, he made 10 tows with the boat thus far with no problems and i asked why didnt it happen 2 months ago? and i told him chances are the manifold or elbow is cracked...impossible, they were new 2 years ago...so i pull them and drop them off at his mechanic to check them....nope they are fine... I go out and pick them up, plate them off, pour water into the exhaust side and long and behold water comes out of the water ports DH, I'll send you a bill and you better hope thay didnt damage the engine. Wednesday, get a call from the BO, where's my engine? did you know its a righty and they are not available anymore? no I didnt, Who put the thermostat in upside down? not me, Ive rebuilt engines for 30 years and didnt have time to do this...well the thermostat was upside down and smoked the engine....I had to buy a complete engine and turn it into righty using your internals, cam, timing gears and so on...it takes time. sometimes i just want to lock the doors and walk away, I think im in the business of fixing mistakes.. dont get me wrong, i make mistakes. but GD, I need a break ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |

John, i wouldve rationally talked to this guy if his wife wasnt with him, she had some Italian/Brunstucky mix in her and I knew there was going to be trouble....she went on and on, i actually ran inside and got a claw hammer because i was going to dig out my repair at the top and he was no no, im trying to explain to this woman that the insurance does not cover rot, just like on a car, they dont cover rust.
I went on to tell her i have a bill inside from last year, once again I stuck my neck out 2 years ago and got bit in the ass, its a fine line, ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |

update, A guy named Eric put the hose to the wrong side of the remote filter and dead headed the oil pump and was'nt getting oil to the engine, discovered once the engine was out on the floor. thats a big MTFCer!!!!!!! ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |

now onto the upside down thermostat, the customer brought me a deposit, Well,,,,,,i started the spiel, and it really slipped, i said as you can see by all the sandblasted parts all the manifolds belt sanded, started painting everything, that i dont n--- rig things, and guess what, he is a horse of a different color. once again speaking before thinking. i was quite embarrassed. ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |
