I have an 86 martinique with the 351 engine. It will start with the help of some starting fluid being sprayed in the carb, and then run fine. But without the starting fluid, it doesn't want to start. Someone suggested get a new fuel pump, but that doesn't sound right to me... any ideas?

I would suggest first thing in the morning before you try to start, remove the flame arrestor and stroke the throttle and watch for the initial accelerator pump spray. if nothing squirts then its time for a carb rebuild. you may be experiencing drainback also, that is a siphoning action that drains the float bowl. the carb may also be dripping when the boat sits and draining the bowl

provided the fuel pump is working if it died the last time out the bowls will be empty and there won't be any fuel squirting either.
