My 2000 vintage Ram-Lin is badly in need of rust mitigation, bunk replacement and general refurbishing, but I don't know a good way to store my boat for a few days to tackle the job. Our nearest water (Columbus, OH) doesn't have rental docks available (that would be a last resort, anyway), nor am I aware of any dry storage in the area. I have friends with boats with a similar hull, but none of them are kept in lifts so no extra trailers are available. Blocking up the boat in my garage seems like a scary proposition, at best.
Anyone have any other ideas? I've read through a few threads here lately that really have me chompin' at the bit to get my trailer cleaned up, but I need the boat off it for a while to get the work done. Thoughts? Go! |

Block it up. I've done it multiple times. My 82 has been blocked in the garage for 5 months now. Not so scary.

You have never seen a boat blocked for storage? It's done all the time. Next time you're around a dry storage, take a look at the floor level boats.
You don't even need to hoist the boat off the trailer. A small bottle jack, several concrete blocks and some wood blocks is all that's needed. There are several threads on the procedure. I've seen tons of boats at boat shows blocked up with people trooping all over them. Actually, a buddy of mine blocked up my 79 Ski Nautique many years back so we could do trailer work. I seem to have a mental block to try it myself, partly due to the larger boat size, but I'm also not sure what I'd block it up with, and my driveway immediately slopes down out of the garage so maneuvering the trailer out might be a more difficult proposition.
Just thought I'd fish for some ideas and maybe some alternatives! |

You should easily be able to locate foam blocks from a Marina and cut them to fit. That's how I blocked mine up in my yard. If you're worried about slope, like you said with your driveway; Utilize a couple ratchet straps hooked to the front and rear eyelets to stabilize her while she's blocked. Yes, I left that out. Sorry. I placed my Nautique carefully between two large trees and used them both as anchor points to strap 'er down in a relatively unstable area. They key was making sure to use the eyelets only as a horizontal support and letting the foam take the point load. ------------- Eric Brenco |
