Going to Okaboji this weekend. My wifes family has a cabin there. They lost many big trees, steps to lake, dock and boat to a recent storm. A crain halled the boat away, that may be where they stacked them.

Massive storm rolled through Boji, 75 MPH winds tossed boats around.... I would suspect it was the same storm that dropped all the rain and caused havoc on Delhi.

Chris, The lake is fine, mostly cleaned up. Most damage at my inlaws was from high waves, talked to marina maintanece people today, they have about 60 damaged boats and the smaller one has 40-50. Several still missing. Got into a warehouse to see the inlaws bayliner, Theirs is the worst this marina saw. 2" by six foot rip down the keel, engine submerged for three days. lots of other dings and scrapes and full of mud and mold at this point. It will be totaled with a 2000 dollar deductable. We retrieved the brand new battery and a pair of sunglasses. The boat was a 2000 with about 200 hours on it. Stored the last two years and brought out a week before the storm. Went to an antique boat show with about 50 woodies at Arnolds park. The boat golden pond in the above photo was there. Very sad. I leave Sunday, have fun. Dave.

How big is that lake? I'm just asking to get a idea on just how bad the waves were. Of course with 75MPH winds, even a small lake will get some pretty good wave action.
I found two "Golden Pond" ACBS listings but nether were close to Iowa. I hope that the adjuster looked at that boat before they went after it with those slings. I sure hope it was a "total" before they used the slings!!

Dave, thanks for the info....I was trying to get up there for the show this weekend but couldn't get away in time. We're staying just down from Arnolds Park on East Lake. Never been to Boji so it should be fun to get some new scenery.

Golden pond was totaled long before the slings got near it. Okaboji is part of a chain of lakes. Probably the widest, similar in size to green lake. plenty wide for a 75 mile per hour strait line wind to whip up a good wave.
Chris. Sking will be best before 9AM, then things get a little rough. especially on weekends. The chain offers lots of places to explore, lots of old boats to look at, some nice homes, and good restaurants/bars on the water. Arnolds park is a fun OLD amusment park if you are nostalgic. T-shirts can be bought at walmart 2 for $10.

dave,
Thanks for filling me in. I did go and searched out lake Okoboji and did find some maps. Yeh, depending on the wind direction, I can imagine what 75MPH would do!!
I can imagine that lake gets busy with the "Walleys" on weekends. There must be 25 public ramps on that chain!!

Chris,
I think it's time for a name change, lol. Everywhere you plan to go, a storm arrives. WTF?

Pete, Yes lots of walleys, tubes and jet skis everywhere. They have a good amount of wood boats on the lake, not a single correct craft at the antique boat show though. You may have to bring yours down some year. Very few inboards on the lake. Lots of I/Os with wake towers. I was without the boat for the weekend . Tough to stay lakeside without it.

Thanks for the pics, He must like a challenge! I was up there last week and can only imagine the kind of storms they can have. Didn't see this one, but saw a nice barrelback and a sweet hacker. How is your project coming along Alan?
