If anyone has any familiarity w/ Barbour Boats, in particular parts availability and good pics for restoration purposes of a mid 50's 16 ft "Silver Clipper", I would appreciate hearing from you.
This boat was given to a friend of mine. She's in very nice shape & watertight, but a few trim pieces are missing and the windshield needs to be replaced. Also, the rear seats and all cushions need to be recreated. She came w/o paperwork so we're also not 100% sure on the model year. We've done the usual Google searches which turned up minimal useful info. Nothing really on EBay either. My one good source here in MD is an inboard guy so he couldn't provide much but he did give me a few leads. The company was based out of New Bern NC. If you know much about the boats or know someone who has one who wouldn't mind sharing a few pics or resources I would appreciate the help.

Sorry I can't help very much. There were hundreds of boat builders and many of them reginal. I've never heard of the builder. When I get home, I'll take a look in Bob Speltz's outboard edition and see if the company is in there. You also many want to take a look at fiberglassics.com as well. They are primarily glass but some wood. A lot of boat companys of the 50's through the 90's have gotten bought out, merged with others or just went out. Unless there is a cult type following you may just have to improvise, customize, or build your own parts. Many hardware items are generic from one mfg to another. Thanks Pete, that's one of the leads Chuck gave me but I don't have any of Speltz's books and he didn't have the OB ed as he's an IB guy. If you see anything worthwhile let me know and I'll go out and pick up a copy. I sure appreciate it. |

Did you do a google search? "Barbour Boat" comes up with a lot of choices, including Barbourboats.com, which has a lot of pictures, including outboards. Not a very formal site, but . . . Second google headline said I'll give away these parts to anyone restoring a Barbour boat.

Get a hold of Gary S. He just put a new (correct!!!) windshield on his stang. The new/old Taylor he had (not correct!!) may fit that boat. That old Chrysler OB brings back memories for me, learned to ski behind a 70hp Chrysler OB hanging on the back of a Tri-Hull Rinken back in 1969!

Brian, thanks, I had seen those two sites. One looks like it hasn't been updated in ten years, the other four or more, so who knows if anything will come of them. Jason (the owner) has the info on them. Chris, can you believe someone hung a 90 horse off that boat at one point? That was the story from the last owner. The transom was beefed up considerably after it left the boatyard. Gary, thanks for the post. |

Hi - Did you have any luck with the Barbour boat photos and parts? I bought a 1960 Barbour Silver Clipper Deluxe in September and - I live in New Bern, NC - the home of Barbour Boat Works until it closed. I can certainly send you photos of a 1958 Silver Clipper, my 1960 Silver Clipper Deluxe, and they have a 1961 in the museum here in town. I've also got some ads and such from the late 50s. My boat is going to be on display at the New Bern Spring Historic Homes and Gardens tour - I hope to connect with some folks who have family who worked at Barbour Boats and others who know about parts, etc. Was getting some info today from a guy who worked in the stock room at Barbour!
