How best to fight the moisture of covering a wet boat? Due to bad weather my boat is still wet from Monday going out again tomorow then covering for a week.
I always try to dry it out first ~ 2 or 3 days in the sun with every hatch / seat open but some times this is not possiable (bad weather / leaving town / ect). Unfortunatly my boat is kept covered outside (NOT UNDER ROOF) Thinking of ways to fight the moisture 1. A Dehumidifier ~ but they are hard to find down here (Central VA) and may not be practical. I have not found anything suitable yet. 2. Some sort of PVC chimney thru the cover just forward of the ski pole. High point on the cover collects the most moisture and a air in under the cover vent. Breeze across a chimney creates a nice low psi vacuum for air flow. 3. HVAC blower fan and duct work providing air in and air out. Father-in-law is an HVAC guy so this is cheap and feasable. A small fan. Specialty supplier like West Marine have fans that are supposed to particularly safe for leaving on in the the boat. BKH ------------- Livin' the Dream |

I'm running a 12" box fan now ~ I'll look into somthing marine specific. Scared to cover the fan with fuel. With fuel I might have to resort to duct work anyway. I have pretty good success with the "no damp" canisters. There are a number of different brands, but to me they all work pretty much the same. Lowe's has the canisters and then the bags of the refill too and they are pretty cheap. I use 5 or 6 of the canisters at all times when the boat is covered b/c the humidity here in SC is so extreme. I too always leave my seat bottoms/cushions pulled out/up from their seat base so that air can get to the bottoms and dry out somewhat. The other ideas with the fan and the "chimney" idea would probably help too. In the past, I've stored a boat covered but otherwise in the weather and always found that to be a challenge. My covers, even the "good" ones leaked when it rained and caused me trouble. Good Luck
