New to the forum, but long time Nautique owner & fan. I'm in Indy, and have a 88 Barefooter with a 351. Awesome boat - Throttle cable broke yesterday and I got a replacement at N3. It looks like I can change it without taking shifter apart. Am I dreaming or on track? Any tips appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Steve

Steve,
Welcome. Is your boat posted yet in the diaries? If not, make a point of it and then get your avitar linked.

At least the cable attachment plate has got to come off the backside of the helm control. The cables need to be engaged into it on a angle and there's no way to do it when it's on the base. They can be a challenge at times due to the limited space you have to work in plus you're working blind!

If I lay on the floor with my feet towards the nose I can change the cable pretty easy. Just make sure you have a helper to get tools...etc for you.

Is there a favored place to buy a replacement throttle cable for my '95 Nautique? Mine broke this weekend. Bad enough we're getting too cold to want to get in the water, now this. Grr. I've changed a steering cable, is it similar in process as far as feeding the new one while pulling the old? I got under and disconnected the old one from the control without too many contortions nor too much pain! In the number sequence on the red cable housing, does the 204 mean 204"?Thanks. ~Peter
