Hi guys can someone give me an idea of how much Cpes you need to do a full plank off rebuid on a 17Ft CC as it looks like I need to ship it with the boat as its not sold here.

Is Rotdoctor cpes the only one to use.

Thanks Roger.

Roger,
You're being awful quiet about this boat you found!! Does the "CC" stands for Chris Craft or Correct Craft? I ask because if it's a double plank Correct Craft, then the hull sides and not just the bottom like on the Chris is double. That extra layer of inner planking will take more CPES.

Yes, the Rot Doctor is the stuff to buy no matter where you get it.

I'm going to take a shot at a estimate. I'd say 4 to 5 gals.

There's got to be a epoxy supplier over there. Give them a call and see if they recommend a solvent reduction of their epoxy. It may save the hassle of bringing in the CPES from the states? I don't know the viscosity of the CPES but it's close to water.

Roger I had the same problem in Australia. I was able to locate similar products International make one called "Everdure Wood Preserver" and Norseal make one called "Epoxy Wood Preserver". Not sure if you can get them in the UK though but hope it helps. These products may not be as good as CPES as they all use their own formulas. The CPES has a fungicide in it's mixture. In my research I also found a post about the contents of CPES.

"The MSDS for CPES is well known, but the effort to get the proportions right is not worth making it yourself."

CPES-
Epoxy A&B
Naptha CAS # 64742-95-6 *
xylene (common paint store solvent)
toluene (common paint store solvent)
isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) (common, cheap rubbing alcohol)
2-butanone
4-methyl 2-pentanone
2-heptanone
4-methyl 2-hexanone
2-pentanone
dipropylene glycol monomethylether
diisobutyl ketone
ethyl acetate
isobutyl acetate
ethyl 3-ethoxy propionate
propylene glycol monomethylether acetate
hexyl acetate
isobutyl isobutyrate
diacetone alcohol
cyclohexanone

Volatile organic content (VOC) 675 grams / liter

CRC has a similar product that has "Busan" a solvent borne fungicide in it.Don't know its track record."

Roger, see if you can find a product called eposeal in the UK, supposedly a good alternative. This may be it.

Thanks Pete, Yes Its a Correct Craft but in read bad shape, the guy I'm buying it from has told it as it is and been a great help with the shipping to the UK, as you said I think its ply skin with plank overlay, like Alan's Hurricane,so there will be a wood CC in Europe to take on all the Riva's one day.

Gary thanks for the tip on smell I take its a windows open job.

Mark, yes same here no Rotdoctor now that's a list of chemicals, think I may get a visit if I try and buy that lot, still most jails have a wood work department.do like the idea of the fungicide in with Cpes, I can see you research this for us guys outside the USA.

Alan thanks for the link looks good and sold here will find out more.

Here's a snap of its best side and it has everything bad you can have in a wood boat the rest of the pictures are just to scary for this time of morning.
Currently its running a gray phantom 6 condition unknown.

Roger,
Cool!!! Knowing you, the project will turn out great plus you'll keep it original!

Eric,
Large single planked boats are chinked between the planks with cotton rope or oakum. With real thick (2" plus) planking, they were never able nor took the time to fit them together with care. Plus, the larger the boat is, the more swelling of the wood so the chinking took up the gaps.
