The transmission on my 1986 SN (351/1:1) has a decent leak through the point where the shift lever goes into the transmission case- I have never done any transmission work so this is my question?

How easy/difficult is it to remove the shift lever shaft (or whatever it is called) and replace the seal at this location?

4804H

Sounds like the "O" ring that has failed. The O ring's factory part number is 4804H. You might get away with just replacing it (1/2 banana job),* but if it failed there is probably a reason for the failure, like pitting of the seal surfaces, etc.
