Well, it's that time of year when many are making large batches of cookies. Today, I got a phone call at work from my wife. She said something must be wrong with the oven since it started on fire and she was afraid the gas stove/oven was going to "blow up"!!! She initially called 911 for the fire dept but after seeing the fire went out after closing the oven door, cancelled bringing in the fire dept. I asked why the fire dept and was told "Kathleen told me to". Now the picture is developed - She was yacking with one of her girlfriends and not paying attention!! All that butter will catch on fire given the proper conditions!!

I got home and tested out the oven and didn't find a issue. The only damage done was when the smoke alarm went off it spooked the dog to the point that he pee'd on the floor!

WATCH THE COOKIES!!!

Funny stuff Pete. We had an incident occur which resulted in maintenance installing cookie circle/slash placards on all the ovens in the lower galley of the L1011's. It seems the FA's got a hair brained idea of baking some pillsbury cookies in one of the ovens ( there were 5) and the same thing happened. A little fire started in the oven and quickly filled the lower galley with smoke. They did the same thing a closed the oven door to put it out but we all know that smoke rises. Needless to say so burnt cookie smoke started to invade the passenger compartment upstairs and that's not a good thing flying @ 35,000 ft and over the pond.

It sounds like that batch of cookies will be needing an extra thick layer of frosting

We called it the dinner bell growing up.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be more along the lines of Wives-watch the cookies! As in don't eat too many and get a giant fat *ss!

Pete,
Just another reason that cookie dough is best left uncooked!
