These are not very common down in the south, but I know from fishing in Minnesota back when I was a kid they were very common up north. I found this on Craigs list locally to have a small fishing boat. I have not got ahold of the owner yet to find out specifics, but I am putting it up on CCF to find out if anyone has pros/cons on what they see here in these pics. I don't know much about the Lunds other than what I have read online today, but from what I read they have a good reputation and long company history.

Mark, I used to be in the boat business back in the late eighties early nineties. Sold some aluminum pontoons and fishing boats. Never sold Lunds, but always considered them to be a well made boat.

Jim, I have only put one striper in the Mustang - I have another little fishing boat that is just not big enough for me and the kids and I want to upgrade to something a little larger and more stable, but still fit in the garage.
Is there any wood in the aluminum hulled Lund boats or is the floor sub-structure all aluminum? |

Not familiar enough with the various Lund models to advise you about the floor structure. Maybe Jeff can chime in about that.
Did you hear on the local news the other day about the three people that spent the night on an island at Lanier? They went out fishiing in a jon boat. It took on water and capsized. The three guys swam ashore with life vests on and managed to start a fire. It was a cold night...but they survived! Great boats! Well made and rugged. I bought a WC14 in 1988 amd have used it for everything from a work boat to fishing to teaching kids how to ski. With a Johnson 9.9 hp it goes almost 25 mph. Great in rough water, too. It'll handle 3-4' chop. Not much fun, but it'll handle it. ------------- |

| I saw the news clip from a posting on a fishing forum - some how someone on the fishing forum knew them and evidently they were in a 12' x 32" flatbottom that had a hole in it and with the wave action from the wind they got heavy sitting low in the water and the waves came over the side of the boat |

That boat in the pic would have a ply floor also. They make basic boats that are all aluminum and have upgraded models with floors, helms, bait wells, etc. The boat in the pic looks like a 16 footer. ------------- |

Here is a couple more pics from today when I looked a the boat in person. It is an '86 model and is 16' in length. Floor is solid as a rock but some of the storage covers and wood on console needs to be replaced - this is simple fix and I can get it the way I like it. Boat looks real good and the keel doesn't have any signs of beaching and transom is solid as a rock - owner said it was stored indoors until about 2 months ago when he moved it behind the auto repair shop. Motor is a 40hp Spirit which I understand is Suzuki until Suzuki was putting their name on motors around the mid '80s any additional insight would be great as I have a test drive scheduled for tomorrow. Batteries were dead, but I did get motor started on the 5th try to see if it would turn over and fire.

My goal when I graduated from college was to buy a brand new Lund. Well after seven and a half years of college to get a four year degree (too much cheap beer and herbs) I bought a brand new Lund. Well after a couple of months after the hull warranty it start to leak. I called Lund they said they could fix it but they would have to charge me at 70 bucks an hour having to tear out the floor at least a couple of grand. I then called the dealership that I bought it from the sales guy who I bought it from admitted to me that they had about three boats from that year 1997 that were put on the wrong kind of trailers that caused the keel to cause spider cracks around the rivets. I could not believe the boat dealer admitted their mistake and were going to make me pay for it. I have always thought the world of Lund til this expierence. The boat leaks so bad you can not leave the boat in the water over night. My buddy is going to help me pull the floor this winter because it needs to be welded from the inside. Sorry for my long post but I am done with Lund boats.

Was wondering if you'd post on this Waldo....you need to get rid of that thing and get something the kids can ski behind. ps- I would have gone staright to corporate with that complaint and posted all over the web. Raise enough hell and you'll get compensated. That's not right and they should have fixed THEIR mistake....especially if you bought a new boat! ------------- |

| Sorry about the experience Waldo, but I did purchase the boat after the test drive and it doesn't leak a bit. Had my 3 kids out there on New Years eve fishing (only caught one) and I am thrilled with the purchase for our new fishing boat. I don't think there was enough water in the back to fill a kids medicine cup after we came off the lake. The old Spirit (suzuki) 40hp starts right up and runs great at trolling speed as well. I will keep an eye out for any problems so thanks for the heads up. I am tickled to death though in fact there is no wake behind this boat and my daughter told me she thinks she could ski better behind the fishing boat than our Mustang - I thought that it was funny when a 10yr old looks at the wake behind boats now |

Congrats on the purchase! I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'll add my comment that they are very good boats overall (not doubting your problem Waldo!) An aluminum boat like that will still be solid a century from now, they just last and last. Also, please go ahead and beach it!
Of all your comments, the one thing I'd maybe watch out for is the transom. When you accelerate with the 40 see how much flex there is, if solid as you thought you'll be fine, but worth taking a look. ------------- '63 American Skier - '98 Sport Nautique |

I watched it the other day when my daughter drove the boat for the first time and it didn't move and I also pushed on it as hard as I could before I bought it and there was no movement I could see - it does not look like a hard used boat and from the story I got it was owned by an old man as the original puchaser and for the most part spent time in his garage - I think I got a steal for what I invested and the condition of the boat/motor.
