What's the perfect prop for a 79 Ski Tique. I'm not sure what's on it right now. 4 blade??? What pitch, etc???

Well...skiing
or "power boating" or mixture (skiing, wakeboarding, pulling tubers, etc) or whatever...what is YOUR preference...I'm just looking for feedback/input from various sources. thanks |

The ACME 3 blade is a really nice prop.A little noisy (on decel especially) has a ton of hole shot power and just a tad slower than my 4 blade OJ at 47MPH (GPS) I think the noise comes from the CUT they put on it.Anyone else with a ACME hear this ? Man I hear all this talk about a different prop. hehe. I love my factory prop. When my uncle had this boat (with this prop) he pulled 9 skiers out of the water at once (on video tape). My boat when purchased was missing the good ole original prop and i destroyed the 4 blade OJ a week ago at the landing.While waiting for my new prop to arrive and the old one to get fixed i used an original type and let me tell you i am glad to get it off the boat.It was a non balanced vibrating machine and made a lot less torque and high end than BOTH of the aftermarket props i have used.If my boat had not come with an aftermarket prop i would have never known.

I'm not going to say that the after market props aren't more refined, but don't be so quick to toss the original Federal, Michigan, whatever. My '89 came new with a Federal, that was out of balance and the blades didn't track. The boat shook like hell. An afternoon at the prop shop and the prop and boat ran very smooth. I'm guessing mine was dinged during shipment, because I can't see Correct Craft releasing a boat after their 1 hour check ride, that had a vibration problem.

Your Tique came with a 12x14. I've run several different brand and size props on that same hull in a Mustang, including Federal 12x13, 12x14; OJ 12x13 and 12x14. The lower the pitch, they definitely had more low end grunt, but turned above the recommended WOT range, although the 12x13 OJ is comparable to a 12x14 Fed rpm-wise. I will be testing a special ACME 540 13x12 that they cut down slightly on the diameter to fit better. The std 13x12 roared loadly from being too close to the hull according to my SN dealer, and slowed the boat slightly compared to my otherwise favorite 12x13 OJ. Marshall Morgan's posted 1970 Mustang is running this prop currently, but unfortunately we didn't get apples to apples testing as it was added during engine upgrades. ------------- ReidP /diaries/details.asp?ID=231&yrstart=1971&yrend=1975 - 1973 Mustang |
