I posted this over on the2001 as well to try and get as much info as possible.
Hey everyone, I'll start off with saying I know that I for the most part have rot in my stringers. The motor area is fine but I know some water has gotten into them. Here is the thing, I want to get two more seasons out of this baby before I do a total resto with new stringers/floor and what not. I understand this will not in any way be a permanent fix, and I'm not looking for it to be. Just don't want to do even more damage than has been done or at least keep it to a minimum. That being said here we go. I have floor separation on both sides of the boat. Drivers side runs beside the seat. Pass side is by the observers seat and down the side a foot or less. The pass side separation seems to be more on the side than the floor. Here are some pictures to give you an idea. Sorry for the crappy quality. Here's my questions. How should I patch this? Grind out lifted pieces and reglass? Lay glass over the separated area? Fill with resin? I don't know much about fiberglass or resins but I am a performance tech/fabricator for a shop so I pick up on things pretty quick. For those of you who have done this work what do you think is my best option? Also since I will be recarpeting with some lowes/home depot carpet should I roll some epoxy onto the floor to smooth it out and maybe help stiffen up the areas that are patched? Thanks guys! I promise in the next season or two I'll do the big resto, but it's too close to the start of the season here to try that now. Here are the pics. Drivers side

| Excellent!! Thanks. Does it matter which type of cloth/resin I use? Also would it be a bad idea to run a thin coat of resin over the floor before re carpeting? I read something about some that self levels? |

Nelson, for what you are wanting to do I wouldn't cover the floor in resin since you say you are going to do a stringer job in the next couple of years. You will need to use an polyester resin to do the repair and unidirectional fiberglass cloth. I don't think you need to use mat cloth as your just trying to buy a little time before you do it right.

Arg, hmmm I bought fiberglass cloth from home depot, and the resin and hardener. I didn't know there was a unidirectional cloth... the stuff I got just looks like well woven cloth. I'll skip the resin on the floor then b/c I do plan in the next two years on a total make over.

Nelson, the woven cloth will work okay. I suggested unidirectional as it will form better than woven. Woven will be okay you may just have to "convince" it to stay in place once you wet it down with resin a little harder than you would unidirectional. You'll be okay.
