I think I'll just use this thread to share any cool ski team pics with you guys. I know you like seeing boats do some serious work other than a casual drive to party cove. Here is a sweet one that I found an appreciation for today.

Talk about a Tug boat!

Actually, I'd like to see all kinds of show ski pics and videos. I know that at least a few of you do show skiing. I'd like to see what it is you do. Every year at reunions I hope to get together with guys to cob together a crude pyramid, a barefoot line or try an ATB, but it never gels. Yet there are some of you out there that have all these things nailed. I'd like to see some of it.

Speaking of the tug boat above, at the boat show the other day, I saw a couple offshore fishing boats with 3 300s on the back. I figured thats about $100,000 just in motors, let alone the boat cost.

Larry, I invite you to check out our ski team's website. We have a youtube page as well but on the site we have a lot of pics you can take a look at.

http://www.skibellevue.com/index.php - Ski Bellevue

Also, a lot of show ski teams in the midwest are currently running 20ft Hydrodyne boats with 3 300hp outboards on the back.

Like one shown here, not quite 900 hp but you get the idea...

Those are Mercs though, which I would stay away from. The ultimate show ski motor is the Evinrude Etec. The pic below is the world record pyramid with 48 people all pulled behind one 20ft hydrodyne with triple 250hp Evinrudes.

Mercury may not be everyone's preference but there is no reason to "stay away" from them. They have served many teams well.

Good point Hollywood. I should have added the "IMO" to that last post. I just hate the smoke, hate the weight, hate the noise, hate the fuel consumption, working on them is not as easy...my list goes on. But you are correct, some teams will use nothing but!

Another fun one. I don't know many teams that do this act...Mad-City pulled a 3-high behind a 3-high. We thought this was pretty cool for us though. 3-high pyramid pulling a 2-1

notice the weather in that pic. Got a lot of rain and the seeds and weeds were in the water. Had to clean the mesh water filter multiple times. Here's what it looked like the first cleaning...thought we should pop it out after the temp guage kept climbing. Yes, it's plump full of weeds.

Cool pic:

That looks like a tennis ball!

The marina across the street from our show site is a Mercury dealer, owned by a former skier, though his family is still active. I'm sure if they sold Evinrudes we'd be running Evinrudes. He's a believer in Mercury, not just a salesman. The warranty is better and they're very close in weight. Mercury typically under-rates their published HP figures while Evinrude seems to embellish a little (from the quick google comparing I did). I hope you're not comparing a 4-stroke to a 2, they both have the same 3 CARB rating however. No smoke complaints from the Pro XS. The only 150s I've seen around are E-Gret HOs, must be a good choice in that particular size.

Mercury Marine has made many advances in the metalcasting industry.

Evinrude Etec motors are 2-stroke, yet still don't use the fuel/oil and smoke less than a merc. My experiences...merc just aren't the ideal show ski motor. Seems like they are made to run ride open to the fishin hole, much like a yamaha.

That CARB rating must have more to do with CO than overall "cleanliness" of the exhaust. The Pro XS is so little smoke (IMO) that I thought you had to be comparing it with a 4-stroke but it appears they are all indeed 2. The most notable difference to me is the sound, those white and blue things are whisper quiet.

Less dudes wakeboarding and more ballet please.

For some reason YouTube has closed many accounts. Too bad because our site has a video of our team doing, what we think and have been told, is the first documented 2-1 pyramid, around the boat. I'll try to upload the video.

Evinrude has got their act together recently but Mercs have been pulling shows for years. A few years back nobody wanted the Etec Evinrudes as they were very problematic. Both will need to comply with Fed ratings for smoke so if 2 strokes stay they will be clean.

I can help but think every time I see the picture with those two sweeties in pink that the next frame wil include Hollywood in a matching outfit.

Here's a link to our little show team. We don't do fancy big pyramids (my boat can't pull those LOL), but we're having lots of fun nontheless...

We are still working on the English translation, but the pictures speak for themselves...

Very cool Kristof. You have a good thing going there. By the way, our team used to have a 1989 Ski Nautique that pulled 15 people off the dock for one of our pyramids a few years ago. It worked hard and was propped right but it made it! I don't doubt that yours could pull a load!

That boat is now owned by Chris (SNobsessed) and I think he's loving it!

Hey gang, I recently uploaded two of our ski shows from last summer to youtube. They're long, a lot of dead time between acts so feel free to fly through some of the boring stuff.

At 25 minutes into the "SB Show 7/3/11" the 07 206 pulls off quite a big pyramid, fun to watch the inboards work.

Otherwise, hope you guys enjoy!

Cool!! 12 people behind the 206...

It always amazes me that my little '89 SN manages to pull ten skiers out of the water... At that age!

I've always been curious about this type rig.

Why outboards? I'm guessing it's the only way to add enough HP to pull the number of skiers for a show like this?

HP and props in the water.

If I could get a nautique with twin GT-40's in it that thing would pull like a semi. Outboards are just more practical when you talk about multiplying them on a 20ft boat.

twin 150's will out-pull a single 300hp any day. It's all about traction.

I bet triple 150's would out pull dual 225's as well.

Dave, there are a few custom inboards around where people have built home made gearboxes that allow a single engine to turn multiple props. Usually for show skiing, where you need to pull big loads out of the hole. I remember seeing pictures of a ~2000 MC Prostar 190. This is a mid-80's Ski Tique:

So Mike, just noticed your logo for the Bellevue Ski team, do you guys ever pull that Pyramid(s) (3-4-3 high) behind a single rig? That is a LOT of skiers (22 I think) behind one boat if you do...

Agreed Tim, very cool tique!

Steve, the logo is deceptive. For a 3-4-3 you actually need 24 skiers. We tried last year a couple times with our twin 150's but conditions had to be just exact perfect for it to happen. This is the main reason we wanted to step up to the 225's.

The most we pulled with a Nautique was a 2007 206 and 18 people. All were on skis except 3 couples. I think the pic is in this thread actually.

Interesting.

With the outboard tow rig, are there issues with the tracking of the boat? It essentially looks to sit somewhat shallow in the water, almost like a bass boat.

That said, I'm guessing the use is more tow lot's of people vs. slalom type competition where significant pull on the boat happens?

The Hydrodyne hull the motors sit on actually has a roughly 1ft long tracking fin under the boat. Without it the boat is very very slippery...the wakes are awful on these things...knee breakers is how I'd explain them!

The guy that kind of started this owns KW Show Ski Equipment trick releases, swivel skis, booms and extentions, etc….Super neat guy .The reason I say kind of started is because it has been done before just not in a ski boat application . He invited me to take his Master Craft (he cals it the Pull Star)for a spin because he said until you drive it you just can’t explain it. I will try and get video.
Counter rotating props
Ability to steer either direction in reverse
Does not effect on top speed
45* bevel cut gears 1 quart of atf   EDM wire burned gears
Sounds like it almost doubled 30 foot times as well as any other speed /boat tests that are done.
The biggest issue was obtaining a patent to be able to sell it. There is a long backs tory to this. And a patent was never issued “it has been done before” (One in two out trans )
He built and installed a dual prop set up in Zane Swanks boat but the patent deal was an issue. Zane wanted to use it in a twin engine 4 prop application.
He also built one for CC but they wanted to set it up and install themselves and for whatever reason were un able to get it to work. And as you see his friend Ryan built one and put it in his CC and works well.
The unit that was in the CC was for a Vdrive and it was returned and is for sale $5,000 vdrive or direct. $10,000 and he will install it.

That all I got for now

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3fZcQ3TUgE&list=UU7zSoqhKkSAeYSn7Hv2CiWg&index=1&feature=plcp" rel="nofollow - Video is the first successful performance of our "One-Act-Show" consisting of a heli with a cut under, 3 high pyramid, conventional doubles couple, and a barefooter!

EDIT: Sorry for the horrible quality in the vid, it was taken by a fan in the crowd...if you full screen it it looks a littttle better.

Hey all! Hope Spring has you as excited as it has me! Our Ski Team had our main towboat in the Mall again this year and wanted to share a couple pics with you. Also...was watching one of our shows while babysitting it and found the clip of our 2007 206 pull 18 off the dock and wanted to show that to you as well...kinda neat seeing what these Nautiques are capable of!

Cool promotions Mike. Love the video.

When are you guys going to be in DSM this year? We drove past that lake this weekend, man I wish we could ski there!

I don't think we'll be out in pleasant hill this year. Haven't skied there for a couple now. They apparently moved their town party thing to a different weekend...the weekend we are away at our Regional Tournament :(

We have been doing some restoration on an old Hydrodyne this winter. We have a twin rig for the ski team and this year we are building our own single rig. Our goal is to get away from personally owned Nautiques to run practice and shows. Our next club boat may very well be a mid 90's Nautique...problem is: I'll have to care about it too much. These Dyne's are nice cuz we can beat em up and not care a whole heck of a lot. At least not as much as a nice clean SN.

After a good buff job:

The Twin got new red lights, the single got Blue. (same setup)

Sounds like there's a bit more water in the rover now, huh?

Dynes are cool but I was really hoping for some bewbs. Where'd you get the new hull?

HW It took me a second to get your language. It's not summer yet, but we have a pretty good supply on hand this year so don't fret!

The single hull was a Family Skier type dyne(back seat, observer seat back could flip to watch skiers or face forward). Believe it's an '84 and it came from Racine, WI. It had an old 200 Merc on it when we got it.

“Well, let me see…sun burn, stiff neck, screwed up back, assorted aches and pains….yup, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.”
