I'm looking to upgrade my current 3 blade prop for a 4 blade prop. I own an 88 2001. I was wondering what the optimum specs are. My boat has the 350 engine. I want to know diameter, pitch, etc. Also, what brands are recommended. All info is appreciated. Thanks!

Where'd you get the idea 4 blades is better than 3 and what do you want the boat to do different than what it does with the current propeller?

I want it to propel over 1500 lbs of ballast more efficiently.

I really need to ask as well. Where are you getting this info? Please, stick with us and spend some time reading about props. A search will bring up tons of current up to date results on props.

Running a 4 blade versus a 3 blade does have its benefits.


I run a 4 blade Acme 208 CNC on my classic nautique hull. I've been extremely impressed with it.

When running extra ballast for boarding, the 4blade works very well, and compared to the old 3 blade I have, it's a day and night difference.

Granted, I don't have, and have not yet tried a comparable acme 3 blade CNC prop on my boat, but I probably will try one in the near future.

The old tech 3 blade is apparently nothing performance wise like the new cnc ones.

Peter and Kevin,
I should clarify the reason I am upgrading my prop is because the one I currently have is pretty beat up. I am intrigued you guys questioning the 4 blade prop. From multiple correct craft owners in my local area, they recommended getting a four blade prop. 10 or so years ago, they gave there 88's a four blade prop and said the difference was incredible. Like me, they mainly used there boats for wakeboarding. Upon further research, it appears the technology of the 3 blade prop has improved drastically over the years. What size and type of prop would u most recommend? We typically wakeboard at 2800 rpm and add 1600 lbs of ballast along with 4 or 5 people in the boat.

Acme 540 is a good prop for wake boarding.

not so quite with that amount of ballast...
Acme 540 (13x12 3 blade CNC)

The 542 (13x11.5 3 blade CNC)would be the better 3 blade prop for your boat and use.
To have a better idea of your performance it would be interesting to know what prop are you currently running and how many rpms at wot it can turn with the boat fully loaded.

If you still think a 4 blade is better, you could get the ACME 208 (13x12 4blade cnc) which would be the smaller 4 blade pitch they make, unless you can get a custom made 13x11.5 4 blade I'd stick with the 3 blade (lower pitch)

I don't know, but the 208 on my martinique works very well, even when it was stock 240 hp.

I do have more pics of my boat. I'll have to load up some more.

I have the same 208 4 blade as Horkn, and I'm happy with it for all around freeskiing and wakeboarding. Even though my boat is a 93, I have a similar powertrain to yours. 351 Ford 240hp with the 1:1 transmission.

Although, my boat came with the 208 so I didn't get to see the difference.

The last time this came up, a lot of people agreed that the 4 blades were a huge improvement over the stock 3blades. And then, the newer 3 blades that came out, were even better than that.

I guess you might as well go right to the new 3 blades. Although, I've heard the 4s have some advantages when moving a lot of weight. I also find it interesting that the new Nautiques all seem to come with 4 blades.

(1990 SN) When chuck full of ballast or pulling a ton of skiers for a show ski act I prefer our 654 (4 blade 12.5X15) over our 1442 (3 blade 13.25X15)

I know these don't compare to what you guys prefer on the 2001 hulls but I do like how smooth the power is that comes from our 4-blade. ESPECIALLY when it's loaded while pulling hard.

You know what is funny is that when I got my 208 in the summer of 02, acme was certain that it would work well on my older SN hull just fien. DIM said not to even try it because it won't work well.

I went with the suggestion done by the manufacturer ( I always will too purely out of principle), and they guaranteed I would like it, or I could return it no problem.

Now I look on DIM and they specifically say the 208 works great on older SN's. LOL
