I must have one of the highest rates on hitting log in the site...lol
today morning i did it again...hit a branch...and bent the prop...
haven´t seen the damage yet as i left the boat in the water..but it did vibrate quite on take off...
I was out to do some BF runs...but it was little windy so is was choppy and the fact I had the damage...went back home without touching water...boomer..no boating this WE....
This is the second hit in the year....
Water today was full of debris due to high tides...

Sorry to hear about your troubles Kap. Good thing they make more props/refurbish them.

We too have been stranded on shore due to high water and debris floating.

Kap, I would have to say if I boated with your crew, I would probably be hitting boats instead of branches!

Pics are good, but video is even better proof.

It's probbablly not easy to find a stainless prop the spins the right way, but might be worth looking for. I had a stainless on my last boat and we hit all kinds of sticks and even a few pieces of lumber and never had any damage.   I love my Acme prop, but it sure doesn't take much to bend it.

Kap,
I think you need to change the model of CC you're running. With that water you're running on, you need one of these. It's got a full ring type prop protector on it!

CC Bridge erector

BTW, you could fit plenty of babes in it as well!

I would stay away from stainless props just because of the "Whack" Factor!
You whack a stainless prop and usually you take the shaft and to some extent the strut can be damaged. Nibral props tend to be more forgiving on the rest of the drive train when impact occurs with sunken treasures! Also initial expense is substancially higher and repair of SS props are expensive.
just my .02cents worth.

-------------
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

I second that Jody. SS props are best for Chrystal clear clean lakes. I'd rather bend an Acme here and there then replace shaft/strut/etc etc. JMHO

upon visual inspection..no visible damage at all...I cab barely see 1 of the blades a little bend to the front and some little shaft wobble st the log entrance....so off will go...
this time I´m getting a new shaft..as this one has gone through 5 repairs, so might be comming weak....

ha still fighting to remove the prop...its well set on its taper!!!
I´m using a home made puller but its kind of cheese and its bends when I start turning the screw...also the blade hit against it and If I continue to turn it hits against the puller and will eventually bend...Soooo I had to let a mechanic remove the prop for me....
Now i´m considering buying a prop puller ARE or OJ or making one as the one pete uses.
I saw a picture around of someone who made one like that but not as pro as Pete´s
Was it Paul (gun-driver) but I can´t find it.

Kap, did you tried heating it up and cooling just the shaft. That helps in extreme cases. Maybe is time to invest in a real puller.

Buy a harmonic from Acme. Works like a champ.

Could you guy's make a puller like this easier? I bought this one years ago from Glen L and it works well. It's bronze but I bet steel would work just as well.Part on the right in 1st pic I had to make so the puller would clear old less raked props.

Bottom view-

about the boat..I put the spare prop back in, and was hoping to do a test run to see if it was only the bent prop, or the shaft as well..but the boat crane broke on monday, and yet as of today morning, is still under repair...
Luckily it will be functional by tomorrow...

I made it and bought enough material and hardware to make 10 of them, the cheapest i can make them for with the machining is a hundy, if i got 5 commits i would finish them.
they are steel

I got to test the boat todat..with the spare 14 x 16 prop...still feel some vibration..not much but enough to shake the coins in the cup holders on take off...
Long time I hadn´t use that prop..felt very smooth in the 2500-3500 rpm band...
So again I will need to remove the prop and shaft...

So As I heve the shaft out to have it straighten out...I might venture this time to have another sahft made...
I will use the machinist that build the prop puller.
I have to provide him the materials.
Is 304 stainless Steel a good choice for fresh water usage? or should I go 316?
The 1" x 4ft bar is around $55
then around $200 to have it machined...

Seb,
The 304 is fine. You'll pay big time for the 316!!! Just make sure you get a straight and ground piece.

I was gazing at your lathe Kap and it reminded of one of the tow boat captains up here, he owns a machine shop and owes me 400 bucks, he called me Monday and asked how much he owed me and went on to tell me why I havnt heard from him. well, he got his sleeve caught in the lathe and it pulled him in, it stalled what he says is the 25 hp motor on it, 2 weeks in the hospital and 4 months to recover....I let him know it was a good excuse in my book

sometimes I do...
so I got everything back toghether..had to cut the shaft log hose to accomodate the OEM seal (longer than the new I replaced) cause i didn´t have enough place to put the coupler and the wrench to adjust everything back..other than that I went pretty straight forward.
Had to move the engine as i had some diference on the coupling to trans top to bottom of around, minor just .003 and ended up with .001, side to side was fine...
then went for the test drive..now the thing is real smooth...oem shaft seal works fine, almost no dripping, just a few as expected....

Anyway I had to put the old shaft there, the keys in the new one where stuck there, woulnd´t budge using the pliers...and I didn´t want to force it out..
then I took it home and using the bench press and some heat, the key pop out...
