'88 Sea Ray Seville cuddy; Ford 350 Marine to Volvo 4.3L I/O. Holley carb (4130?) just rebuilt. 9v to coil w/key on.
On trailer engine runs right up to about 4500 rpm. In water runs good up to 1500 rpm (which gives me about 10 knots), but if given more throttle, engine sputters and dies. Spark plugs seem to be on the rich side - however idle fuel adjustment screw set 3 turns CCW from all the way in. (Confirm leaner is more turns CCW?)
I'm just a weekend mechanic - any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the timing set correctly & is the advance working?
You might also check the accelerator pump output on the carb.
You could look down the carb during the sputtering to see if the gas streams look normal (I myself would use a mirror in case of backfire).
BTW, isnt there a Sea Ray Fan club?
