86 ski that the fuel gauge will only show empty.
What is the best route to take to get fixed beside just keeping the tank full? New sending unit?

There are ways to test to see which side had failed. This just came up. I did a quick search and couldn't find the other thread. I'll look later and see what I can come up with.
Something about grounding he sender wire and if the gauge moves, then it's the sender. Not totally sure though. Worth trying to clean up the sender wire connection as well.

Do exactly what Pete said in the other thread. But also check the condition of the cork float.
I had the same problem with my "85. After doing all the tests Pete said it tested fine including the ohm test. Put it all back together still didn't work
It ended up that the cork had built up a bunch of varnish and was gas soaked and would not float correctly. Replaced the cork with a new foam float and wallah worked like a champ.
Still have the $50.00 sending unit sitting in the garage that I bought to replace it with.
Moral of this story, don't rush out to buy replacement parts till you know you'll need them!!!

No ski course on my lake Kirk. I'm in southwest lower Michigan. Where are you located at?
Also, thanks for all of the usefull info.
I will be working on this tomorrow morning to see what i can come up with. I will deffinetly check the cork before dropping the loot on an entire new unit.

Gary,
I got it from a ATV/snowmobile shop in my area. They usually have some lying around.
You can also check Lowes hardware drawers in the area of the furniture fastners they carry corks.

I took the back seat and rear panel out and noticed that one wire at the unit itself was broken off at the conection point. Cut about 4" off of the wire and reattached. Works great.
Thanks everyone.
