Tim,
I just checked my stock of Locktite. The "bearing retainer" is #638. I can't say if it would work or not. The bearing buddy's don't have much surface area to hold them in, It really is a press fit. If the hubs bores are worn or stretched for some reason, the best fix will be new hubs and then of course new Buddy's!! Say hello to John for me and tell him he needs to open his wallet every once in awhile!!

Pete: Opened the wallet and moths flew out.
Well after a stop at a trailer place and 2 tire stores and 1 auto parts store, I finally got to fixing the bearings in a WallyWorld parking lot. Fortunatly ...Tim came back and brought some tools. I do have one tip...don't use a sharp fishing knife to peel aluminum tape. I now have a very nasty cut on my left thumb.
Anyhow.....
The wallyworld guys loaned me and Tim a flooor jack and some stands. We re-did the work my tech from home did...had the tires balanced and we were on our way. To Tim's house. Since we had been on the road since 4am and it was 6pm before we got fixed...we decided to accept Tim's invite.
So tomorrow the trip will continue...hopefully no more problems and our Tennessee vacation will continue.
Thanks to Moorfoot for his 2 trips out to rescue us and to the boat dr for the phone consults.

The guy has been retired only a few years and the first thing he forgets is you always cut toward your partner Fishing knife? Where were your snips and blue blade? Didn't you cut aluminium tape for something like 30+ years?

snips and blue knife are on the kitchen counter. Looked at them this morning and said "naw..won't need these"....dumb. Never got hurt using the proper tools. Cut more than a bunch of aluminum tape over the years.
Crown and Diet Coke with Moorfoot helps to ease the pain!

John,
I'm glad you made that "pit stop" and got the problem solved with Tim's help.
So, it sounds like the wheels were so out of balance they were throwing the bearing buddy's? What did you do with the aluminum tape? Were the hubs bores out of spec and the tape took up the gap? Or, did you end up with new hubs?
Tim,
What size did they turn out to be? My guess at the 1.88 was sure off but I do see 1.98 is a popular size.

Will John ever learn?? Tim, thanks for the call and filling me in on the details. As mentioned, the lad has worked with knives all his life splicing all those wires together and now cut's himself real bad? Gary, did john miss that part of the safety training? At least he didn't need to go to the hospital - Wally world was enough!! Tim you got him (and Patti) back on their way to his reunion and gave him a important overnight pit stop. Yup, that's the CCfan family!! Now, we need to get John to carry some basic tools with him. Getting him to understand how to use them is "the rest of the story".

John, Patti and Jo the Tenn wonderdog usually stop and have lunch with me every year on their way to the cabin in Tenn. Got 6hrs behind schedule as he thru 3 buddy bearings before he got to McDonough.
We shoulda had Patti take pictures of the trailer up on jacks behind walmart,John's bleeding thumb along with the instrument of destruction, and me working on the hubs on the trailer while John's thumb was being butterflied together.
Lucky for both of us that I was towing "Miss Scarlett" with me to fill her up and had my toolbox in her with proper tools instead of a fishing knife, claw hammer, and flatblade screw driver that John had. I'll give him credit in the fact that he did have a toolbox in the truck with him but a tape measure, a carpenters square, torpedo level etc. wasn't going to do him much good on the side of the road fixing a trailer.
He did get a good nights sleep woke up and hit the road early Sunday morn and let me know throughout his journey that all was okay and they did get to their destination shortly after lunch.
John's adventure could have happened to any of us and has happened to some of us already. We've all heard the stories. It's only a matter of time before the gremlin gets you. If ANY of you guy's are broken down or having troubles in the Atlanta area the same rules apply to you. Don't EVER hesitate to call me for help. If I can't get there we've got lot's of CCFans round here that can..

For those who are wondering what Marty's surprise was, it's a Dunphy pennant for my X55.
