Has anyone used the GoPro Camera that can provide review / opinion of how it performs?

not sure if thats what these guys were using in the link below, but it looks pretty nice.

dont pay attention to the ad for the ski, just referring to the first 2 min of camera perspective.

Yeah that looks to be Gopro footage.

They are awesome little bits of technology. They won't replace a normal digital video camera, but for what they can do (and go) they are worth every cent.

Just type waterski and Gopro into youtube and you'll see lots of great examples on what they can achieve. Here's a little video I shot solely with my Gopro using the suction cup mount on a nice morning out in the boat.

here is mine attached to a wakeboard

It seems to have done good attached to the boat and handled the gentle ride of a wake board fine, the question now is "Can it take the abuse of a deepwater barefoot start?".

Justin & Ernest thanks for sharing your videos. I am curious though, were you shooting in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps?

I think I was shooting 1080x960 (4x3), 30NTSC or 25 pal FPS. According to Gopro this gives the most vertical view.

I've seen video that one of my team members shot with the GoPro attached to the business end of his barefoot boom. He also mounted it on a hockey puck, gently and passed the puck back and forth. Very cool.

After only owning it for a couple of days I got adventurous and made a velcro mount for the front of the slalom ski. Felt solid as a rock, but just in case I fabricated a tether for the camera as well. By the time I got to 2-ball it was gone. 18 feet down in murky water, probably still recording as I type this. Gone, gone, gone. 300.00 right down the drain. I'm crushed.

M3fan,
I feel your pain.....or should I say: "I felt your pain". I lost mine b/n the four and five ball. Somehow (I am not blaming my best friend) but ,the case came open and I felt the camera hit my leg!

I called Gopro, told the truth, and they offered me one at a discount (30%). I thought that was fair. I havent tried it again in the course.

That is pretty cool that they offered you a 30% discount. That makes me want one even more. Top of my list of tech gadgets I must have. All of the different POVs you can get. You could make some great vids with 3 of these mounted at different POVs. One day soon!

my wife bought it directly from their website (xmas gift)...that seemed to be important to them, that they had a record of the purchase through them.

The physics of slalom is just crazy. By the time the ski hit the wake on the way to 2-ball, it had mostly bucked off the camera. As I rounded two, I saw the camera fly off and the tether ripped out of the boot instantly. The forces at work really blew my mind because that velcro was very solid- I had 2 4x1" strips of ultra heavy-duty velcro holding the original base of the camera (that it came with in the packaging) to the front of the ski. The tether was a length of mason line with a caribener on the end, which I securely bedded into the velcro of the "FCS" on the front of my binding. Rock solid, redundant setup. Not enough. I already ordered a new one but we're going to do some SCUBA and see if we can rescue it. Not optimistic.

Agreed- I had one fly right off of a ski (broken mount) on the first "real" wake crossing it experienced-

Here is a video with it head-mounted on R3:

Just got an email from Gopro.....they have a new back door that has a float attached. Might be worth it! I read somewher on Gopro's website that they dont recommend putting it on a ski.
