Hey guys, Just bought my first powerboat, a 1979 San Juan open and i hope to take a trip to Ocrakoke Island NC the first week of Aug. I ran the boat hard for three hours the day i brought it home to shake it down and run some fresh fuel through it. I changed the oil yesterday {rotella t}. Besides maybe chainging the fuel filter what should i do before a 50 mile open water trip across the Pamlico sound. Impeller seems fine, should i mess with it. Trans fluid looks good? Should i change it anyway. Any advice greatly appreciated.   Thanks Going out to take my second spin this afternoon with my wife and 9 month old babie girl and try to get an idea of fuel use.

if i ever re-locate it will be to Lake Norman, I would suggest a trans alignment, i always tell people if you change the trans oil 50 times it wont hurt a thing

We will be staying for two or three nights. The ocrakoke inn has free dockage with a room.

Sorry, didnt answer your question but im sure i will have to refuel while there. Had some fuel issues yesterday towards the end of the day while idling so im gonna post a specific question about that.

Michael, congrats on the new boat. Those San Juans are indeed great riding boats.
Fifty miles open water: check the weather and have a vhf radio are just a couple of things that come to my mind. Besides the obvious of checking and tightening all hose clamps. Check belts (maybe have a spare set) spare impeller, tool box.
That should be a great trip. Enjoy! Anchors Aweigh!
