I am drawing up some new brackets for the swim platform. I am going to have bolts running all the way thru the transom and thru a backing plate inside.
Couple questions: 1. How thick is the transom? 2. How much room is there between the inside of the transom and the fuel tank? I have a 87 SN. Here is a pic of what I have so far.

Transom, I am guessing is between 1/4 and 3/8 thick. Can't say for sure how far gas tank is from transom but certainly enough room for backing plates and nuts, as that is what I have (1/4 inch aluminum plates)
You probably won't be able to through bolt the lower attachment as the floor covers that area.

Ok, thanks. I am trying to eliminate that little screw in the bottom. I might have to move my lower plate up closer to the top one.
Also, instead of putting a nut on the backing plate, I think I will just tap the plate since you cant access the nuts if they were to work loose. Is that a removeable bracket that I see in your pic? Where'd you get those from? |

Yea, probably could, but since these are only 1/4-20's I thought it wouldnt hurt. Might change it to three per side instead of 4 though. Something like this...

http://www.alloymarine.com/indexII/swimdeck.htm - Alloy Marine Their new website shows a new design only, but says they still have the traditional design available. Also see the page on rise and swing. Larry,
Thanks for the link. Think I will make these myself. Guess I will have to wait about where to put the lower set of holes until I get my tank out and see whats actually there. Hopefully I can eliminate that one small screw at the bottom. The futher apart I can keep them the better, but I am replacing this #10 woodscrew with two Ø5/16 bolts (may have to use only one bolt). I should be able to move it up some and still be stronger than the original design. |
