I'm at about 250K with my 1995 6.5 and I'm getting a stumble on acceleration after idling for a short time say at a stop light. Runs fine down the highway. My mechanic suggested adding a can of injector cleaner to the tank but he wasn't specific on the brand. Anyone out there with any suggestions? Todd? One of my fellow employees who has a high milage (550K) Dodge recommended Seafoam. I see on Seafoams website that it can be used in a diesel as well.

Pete,
My bro in law is a Dodge stealership mechanic and recommends Seafoam
and I use Lucas also. As of the moment I'm filling my tank with
25 gal. diesel and 10 gal of fuel oil. I still have over 100 gals.
the fuel oil to use up. I think it runs a little smother with the
blended fuel.

3 16oz. cans of Seafoam are now in the tank. Per the Seafoam site instructions for injector cleaning, they recommend removing the fuel filter, emptying the housing, filling it with Seafoam, running the engine directly on the Seafoam for 5 minuets, stop the engine and let it "heat soak" for an hour and then get it back on the road and give it hell!! Per my mechanic and the friend with the Dodge, both said just give the fuel a decent dose of Seafoam first, run it and see what happens before going to the more extreme procedure. Anytime I open up something in a diesel fuel supply, I always worry about air locking, so I went the easy route first.

Pete, my neighbor has a 2002 jeep 4.0 litre, they were standing over it listening to what appeared to be a rod knock, i knew it was a lifter and the mechanic that was there beat him down to 3 grand for the 7 grand jeep, the owner was taking a major hit and this mechanic knew it wasnt a rod knock either because he told my other neighbor the same thing under his breath. So Friday i popped the valve cover after work, brought home some Mercury engine cleaner in a can, pulled the loose rocker and put a hose over the pushrod and procedeeded to squirt the lifter, worked it for a good half hour...fired her up and the noise was gone....
the other guy wants that jeep in a bad way so he can make some money on it, now they are agreeing on 4500.00, now the kicker, when i fired it i could see green seeping thru a little crack in the head....
what comes around goes around?

I forgot to mention that Napa has the Seafoam on sale till the end of the month at $6.49 per 16oz. can. I have never seen the stuff on sale and the normal price has gone way up recently to around $8.00 per can. I just may go back, get a couple more cans and use it this winter in my boats to stabilize that cr** gas we are getting these days.

i see a lot of that pinkish orange gel in the bowls and main jets of small engines. briggs kohler etc on equipment not used too often. on some i start them when they will and watch them run up and down on the governor . a quarter of a can of sea foam and 15 minutes . its like a miracle you see the motors stabilize the rpms and off they go.

Peter,
I could have tried the Seafoam method On my YH's but I figured WTH, after 29 years, it was time to open them up and see what was inside!!!

My Kohler up north on my whole house gen set has given me some problems however, it being on natural gas I don't feel the problem is the same. The problem with it failing to start and running rough always happens in the winter so I've got a suspicion that it's gas pressure related and the demand on the system at that time. I've never hooked up my manometer in winter to actually check out the inches but will this winter. I did tweek the the regulator when I installed it but didn't what to go too far and have a problem with the furnace and HWH in the house.

Pete,
Seafoam is a good cleaner but not a good fuel stabilizer as it contains Isopropyl.
Google the MSDS. It cleans well because its Pale Oil, Naphtha and IPA(Isopropyl alcohol) just my two pennies

Paul,
Thanks!! I did look at the MSDS last week. It's always the "proprietorial" ingredients that screw you up!!!

Well, the Seafoam seems to be working. I've only driven it for about 40 miles and yesterday I didn't notice the stumble. So, the chances are high that I did have junk in one or more of the injectors.

I don't even know what this means, but it sounds like winters in Illinois are rough!!!

I don't know about you guys but I really don't want to know how many inches(winter or summer) Pete measured on his man-o-meter.
