Hi from England , went to the boat last weekend and found water up to the floor level and past the top of the tranny . Lifted the cap off and it doesnt look like any water has entered however as a precautionary measure I am going to suck the fluid out and replace   couple of questions
1 If there is some water in could it be at the bottom and left in when i suck the fluid out with an auto syringe ?
What other way is there of draining it ??

2 What is the correct fluid I seem to remember Dexron II is OK ?

3 I think I put Dexron III in last time as i couldnt get any Dexron II is Dexron III acceptable as well ??

I remember that on the old boats (1988) its best to avoid Synthetic Tranny Fluid .

Thanks

I changed the fluid on my trans by buying a vaccum pump at the marine store. West marine sells one for $ 50.00. All you do is put the tube in and suck up the old tranny fluid. The trans hold about a quart and a half of fluid. You do about twenty pumps and start the sucking (sounds like a REMOVEo ha ha) and do a few more while its working. I got a little bit of dirt at the bottom of the fluid but all in all in looked pretty good. Any dextron is good just stay away from the synthetic stuff like you mentioned. I love easy jobs.
