Hi guys,
This is my first post, great advice here so thanks ahead of time.
I've got a 90 Sport Nautique and I was wondering if anyone has replaced their long cartridge Fram fuel filter with the spin-on type sold at Skidim?
I'd like to find something a little easier to maintain...

I have a add on fuel/water separator on my Mustang. I got it at my local marina and I can get a replacement filter from NAPA for about half the price the marina wants.

Mine is mounted to the inside of the stringer just ahead of the engine on the same side as fuel pump, ain't real easy to change, but I have only changed it twice (i think) in 6 years

It's in the same place as mackwrench's. You think it would fit in alot of places but it will not. I attached it to a piece of wire strap, a strip of metal with alot of holes in it. I bent the wire strap in a L shape, and it overlaps the floor a little. The wire strap is screwed to the edge of the floor and the filter kind of hangs there. When I change it, I unscrew it from the floor and lift it a little. I left enough slack in the fuel line to do this. I really couldn't find anywhere else to put it. I change once a year, after I use up the gas that's been sitting in it all winter. It has two inlets and two outlets for the fuel, which you can go in and out on the same side.

Sounds like cheap insurance. I have a $4.00 in-line filter inserted just behind the transmission mount. It's small but clear so hopefully I can see any water trapped in it. I am 100% warm and fuzzy with it.... I will think about one of those super filters like yours. Thanks fellows...

Jim, I also have another filter. One of those see through glass filters that the fittings screw on from each end, and has a small woven basket type filter that you can clean or replace. It's between the fuel pump and the carb. No trash gets to it, I just like the visual that I have gas and the fuel pump is working. My fuel line is copper up to about the motor mount. Did you cut your line to install that filter?

Tim, yes, I cut it. My fuel line is hose up to the fuel pump. I was having a trash in my carb problem until I installed the filter. No problems since and I can see when fuel is in the filter by just lifting the motor box.
