So its the new year and I am working my way through my many many emails and SOPA keeps coming up more and more...you guys in the US are on the brink of something bad and are close to being hit with massive internet restrictions and your freedom of speech (on the internet) massively restricted! If it happens to you guys then I am sure the UK will soon follow with something equally bad.
I do understand the ideas behind the bill but the wording could take the bill way beyond its original idea.

Quote On November 15, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Zynga, eBay, Mozilla, Yahoo, AOL, and LinkedIn wrote a letter to key members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, saying SOPA poses "a serious risk to our industry's continued track record of innovation and job creation, as well as to our nation's cybersecurity."

Have a read through some of the links below, there is a lot of information to work through but worth reading what some of your senators are about to support!

Happy new year guys, I would say its good to be back but to be honest I wish I was still on holiday

Oh and here is an article that sums things up quite nicely and shows why the legislation is so bad.

Assign liability to site owners for everything users post, without consideration for whether or not the user posted without permission.

Site owners could face jail time or heavy fines, and DNS blacklisting.

It would require web services like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to monitor and aggressively filter everything all users upload.

It would deny site owners due process of law, by initiating a DNS blacklisting based solely on a good faith assertion by an individual copyright or intellectual property owner.

It would give the U.S. government the power to selectively censor the web using techniques similar to those used in China, Malaysia and Iran. The Great Firewall of China is an example of this type of embedded, infrastructural internet censorship.

One of its chief supporters is "Lamar Smith" but the main money behind all the lobbying is coming from the MPAA and RIAA.

Hopefully, our elected officials will not go along with this, but I think it's only a matter of time before they come up with a plan to tax commerce on the internet, and then they will not hold back on restricting the whole web so they can put their hands in all of our pockets.
