Well we have two new CCFans now. New years day at 12:29 Julia Pearl and Stella Kate where born 6 weeks early at 32 weeks via an emergency C-Section. 2lbs 9oz and 3lbs 9oz. It's been a week now and both are doing nicely in the NICU. Julia was always on the smaller size so she won't get to go home as soon as Stella. We hope to get Stella home in 3-4 weeks.

Mom recovered very quickly and we are both taking our twice daily trips up to the NICU to see them.

Just yesterday they got off of their breathing help, O2, etc., so we have a good shot of the two. They are identical BTW.

Hopefully we will get them on the Mustang for a quick trip later in the Summer.

Thanks everyone! We are very happy. Actually Gary, I was supposed to finish up the room that weekend but the girls had other plans

Our next hurdle will be with Julia, she will need a "minor" heart surgery before leaving the NICU. She has a narrowing of the Aorta. They are going to wait until she is 4.5-5.5 lbs to do it. Apparently as far as heart surgery goes, this one is on the easy side. We are fortunate to be at a really good hospital equipped with a level III NICU and Neonatal heart specialist.

Everything else is looking good, now that most of their tubes and IVs are out, we can finally hold them

Congrats to Mom and Dad... Beautiful girls you got there. Thanks for posting the pictures. Nothing I enjoyed better about being a new Dad was when both girls would sleep away laying on my chest while having the death grip on my finger. Now it's getting poked in the chest because I've fallen asleep on the couch and " DAD...your snoring too loud!"

Vondy,

I was in you shoes nearly 12 years ago. 7 weeks pre, 4.5 lbs each. Many here now know my twin daughters and you wouldn't for a second think that they weren't fully cooked when they ran out of room in Mom's condo.

NICU is scary yet wonderful place. What doctors can do these days is amazing. You are in good hands.

If you are an observant person, you'll learn more about how humans interact while raising your twins than any other time in your life. Things you think happen much later in life, you'll see very early on and much more so than 2 random kids of the same age playing with each other. Be very aware and as involved as you can be. We caught them cracking each other up in their crib when they were like 3 months old. One was making a funny noise and the other would laugh then the other would laugh. I never would have believed it unless I saw it with my own blood shot eyes.

Do everything you can to keep those two little buggers schedules synchronized. 1 baby is tough but 2 of them with off schedule feeding and sleeping cycles really, really sucks. We went so far as to wake one up when the other got up. Same with feeding. Seems insane at the time but it works out in the end.

-Steve

Haven't been back to this post for a while, thanks for the advice Steve. The NICU is amazing, we are lucky to be at a Children's hospital as well so everything we need is at one spot. Hopefully the girls will be skiing behind the mustang before we know it.

Stella is up to 5 lbs 3 oz and should be coming home this week or early next

Julia is a couple oz shy of 4 lbs. We hope within 2 weeks she will be at her surgery weight so we can break her out of there before too long.

Julia keeping an eye on us.

Update on the girls.

Julia had her surgery a week ago today. She did great! She is now back in the NICU learning to bottle feed, we hope she is home the first week in March.

It's amazing what they can do these days, operating on a 4.5 lb baby. It was tough seeing her afterwards, she looked pretty rough, but she recovered very fast. Only 3 days in recovery then she went back to the NICU.

Stella has been home for 2 weeks now. We finally feel like real parents. Tired like them too

Here's Julia this morning, finally a good shot without breathing tubes, etc all over her. Just the feeding tube.

Stella at home

They look like they're doing quite well! One of my best friends had twin girls at the end of January, 6 weeks early. They were under 4 lbs each had a whole bunch of jazz hooked up like that as well. They finally went home last week.

Thats great news David,Mom doing ok too? Hardest thing ever is watching them get wheeled off for the operation. Ours who is going to be 27 soon had some major work when he was 1

Yeah same here, 6 weeks early. Talk about a bunch of jazz hooked up, here's what she had after the surgery. At one point all 8 of the machines on the right were pumping fluids or meds into her. That only lasted about a day though.

Gary mom is doing just fine. The surgery shook her up a little, especially, like you said, when they wheeled her off. I rarely see my wife cry, unless it's some stupid chick flick, but she was tearing up that day. Hell I think my dad even teared up a bit that day and I've never seen him cry.

She's like a new baby now so mom is doing great. Can't wait to get them both home. Of course that will be a major challenge having two to take care. Hey, if I can survive a stringer project surely twins is a walk in the park eh?

That would be cool, then the car seats could automatically inflate if they bounce out into the water

Doubt they will see much of the Mustang this year, they'll be hanging out on my brothers pontoon or my dads deck boat I'm sure. We can give them a ride or two on ours but that boat is just too small and rough for an excursion with infants. Once they are walking it will be easier.

I also missed this thread until now Congrats, they are beautiful!
My daughter was a nurse in the NICU at the University of Chicago before moving to Canada last year. I was always fascinated by her stories, but they lacked names or parental info (hippa), and after they left she never saw them again.
It is so nice to see the true result when these beautifully small children go home to a loving family. You and your wife are very lucky indeed! I wish I could enjoy my daughters growing up again.
