The link doesn't work for me either anymore...
Has Eric removed the site? It was overwhelmed with spam at the end. Guess he gave up on it.

Anyone have contact info for the curator if the2001.com? It had a lot of extremely usefull info for us 2001 owners. I would be interested in maybe rehosting it at a different address or at least pulling the data down and packaging it so people needing help could download it and dig through it.

The sight has been so trashed and Eric NEVER maintained it with all the spam. www.the2001.com | I can tell you that I got a lot more help there than I am here, regardless of how much spam there was. That is what eventually took the site down. I just know I could find almost anything on that site regarding my 2001, because it was specifically 2001 enthusiast. I'm just looking for contact info so maybe some one who has more time to monitor the site could maybe take over and bring it back online.

AJ, You sure didn't give us much of a chance. You joined 6 days ago and posted only 9 times, 7 of those posts were concerning trailers and then the other 2 were about the2001 site. Stick around and ask questions. I feel you will be surprised.

I thought it was a shame about the2001.com as it was a great site with loads of info but nothing you won't get from here I've found everything I possibly could with a simple search or asking a few simple questions, this site has been invaluable to me.
If you ask the right questions and include enough information/pictures and keep following up there is nothing these guys can't answer or have not already answered.
The2001 was running on an old version of PHPBB which didnt have any spam protection and so was very quickly and easily overrun by the spam bots, although it would have been technically possible to save the database and perform a clean up it would have taken a BIG effort to bring the site back to a usable state.
I did a quick google search this morning and came across this:
"The2001.com is ranked 3,903,908 in the world (among the 30 million domains). This site is relatively popular among users in the China. It gets 92.4% from China"
I guess 92.4% from China sums up the level of spam!
Erik still has the Domain name registered until April 2013 but might be available after then if you fancy doing something for the Chinese visitors
I did email Erik about a year back offering assistance and hosting space for a cleanup but I guess ultimately running any site is a constant fight with spam and was something he couldn't devote the time and effort to.
Long live CCFAN.

Do you perhaps still have his info so I could give it a go?

I don't know the guy so its not something I would feel comfortable giving out as its not my place to do so, he obviously had his reasons for shutting down the site and we should respect that choice and never under-estimate the work that goes into maintaining a popular site.
Erik has lots of information out on the web in all the normal places you go when you want to track somebody down... personal website, linkedin profile, facebook, twitter, whois everything is out there you just need to get busy on the google machine

The 2001 site was great but the primary occupants of that site are here on CCF. The only real difference is the level of emphasis on wakeboarding was far higher on the2001. But between CCF and planetnautique you should have no problem getting all of your 2001 questions answered.
Now that multiple people have stated they have questions regarding there 2001s that they feel could be answered on the2001, lets hear those questions! Myself and others would be very happy to help answer your questions.
Pete will be happy to help answer 90% of the questions you have as the guy is a wealth of knowledge and the other 10% of the q uestions Pete doesn't answer, ie wakeboarding and ballast related questions, I can help fill in those blanks and maybe a few others!

I would love to see it come back, even though I know there's a zillion times more knowledge here. But being able to do a quick search and knowing that the results cater to exactly the same boat is just so easy! Sure I can do a search here but I might get 100's of results, about boats from the 40's through 90's. Anyway, super happy with CCFan, but there's enough space for both sites. 1984nautique; Erik is on PN and WW so it's not hard to find him. Though I've tried to contact him too about it and never got a reply. But the time might be right now. Keep us posted if you get anywhere!

It should be easy, just strike a deal with him for the domain and archived info, get web hosting set up, and then spend 100 hours getting things back up and running and de-bugged, and 10 hours a week maintaining the site.
I'm all for it, of course there is room for another site, but it's a pretty huge committment to run a site WELL. Keeping software up to date, moderating to keep content clean, managing the site to minimize down time and glitches is a serious task.
The only limitation I've ever had here, and mentioned by Sander above, is searching can bring a lot of results not related to your search subject. But, Google searching this site can help narrow it down, and of all the sites I've posted on I think this group is the most patient with questions being asked again by new members. Post "how do I winterize" and a few people will offer advice and link to existing threads, make sure the poster gets the info they need.
