Working on the 84 this spring trying to get it back in shape and thinking about repainting and doing some patch work.
Recommendations of paint colors/paint types for the 3 blue stripes on the side of the hull? Also wondering about where to source the gold stripes on the top and bottom and a few of the decals? Picture of the boat as is, are below.
Hoping that if I take time to tape correctly it shouldn’t be too bad – but then again ignorance is bliss right?

I cant say anything about the quality of the garzon stickers as I have never used them. I got a full set of all six off of ebay a few years ago, but don't know who produced them. I'm sure the white lake ones are fine but they don't have the awsa ones. A long lost member here, madd marxx made the awsa ones, but I dont know what came of him.
EDIT: upon looking at your picture again, looks like you don't have tgeh awsa one any way, so it looks like white lake can help you out.

Real question is what kind of speakers are you going to mount to those fancy bolts hanging out the side of the boat....bet those were original
In the mean time...here's the thread I was telling you about.

I wrote CC and was able to get the actual colors. It is rustoelum paint. I found the pin stripe at a auto parts store that dealt with paint shops. They had a catalog of different types. I found some made by 3M that is spot on. Pauly Bananna has the decals.

Looks like: Edited Royal Blue Sail or Fresh Blue Harbor Blue

The Sail looks too bright to me, Doc.
I bet its some combination of Harbor, Fresh/Royal and Royal/Navy.
As you can see in Jeff Toro's thread, Royal was an exact match for the blue on his '77.
JoeinNY may know- his '83 is the same color.

It sure does Tim. In your photo, the top stripe looks Royal Blue.

Awesome - thanks guys! That really helps -
On the topic of touch ups - don't know if you noticed the sweet bolt that were put through the side of the hull right above the "tique." Some previous owner had the idea to put a radio mount there. Any suggestions on the best way to patch those?

Pat, to repair those holes, you'll need to get to the back side of them. Pull the carpet back, and clean up the glass in that area. Then glass the holes shut from the inside. Tape over the holes on the outside when you do this, so you dont drip resin down the side of the boat. Once that is dried, then you can repair the glass and gel on the outside. Grind off the loose or cracked gel around the holes. I would probably fill it with a high strength thickened resin first, to bring it close to flush. Once thats dry, then grind down just below flush with a dremel. Use a conversion coat (vinylester) prior to gel. Then do a color matched gelcoat repair. Sand it smooth and buff it out- good as new!

hmm well. Remove bolts, then you should be able to refiberglass from the inside and then fill from the outside and gel coat to cover. Trickiest part will be matching the gel color. They make little gel coat patch kits with the tints and you just mix it yourself. There is probably enough in that kit to fix those two holes.

or what tim said. basically the same thing just more detailed. Couldnt he just use vinylester resin for the repair, then he wouldnt need it in addition as a conversion coat?

I did not care for the way it held the filler either. To get it to cure all the way, you need to add wax (just like poly). Getting the ratio of hardener is also critical to get it to cure properly, and have the proper strength. Id use epoxy instead for the repair, its a piece of cake to work with, in comparison- plus its stronger.

yes I mean, I did a little work with both this year the epoxy is definitely easier but for that small amount it will be a pain if he has no fiberglass supplies to buy both and it will be a little more expensive too.
As a side note, can you use bondo for filler? I heard somewhere that is just polyester resin and talc.

I suspect between Pat and Chris that they'll have plenty of fiberglass supplies around to do this repair... if not quite yet, soon!
Yes, you can use bondo for filler- it works great for final fairing, actually. Its a low strength filler though, so I wouldnt lay it on very thick.

What conclusion was reached on the color of the middle stripe? Can you touch up the middle stripe with this spray?

Pretty sure no conclusions have been reached as of yet! Also note that Pat's boat has Dresdon Blue gel... not the gray or taffy (white). I have also noticed 2 different blue striped schemes on the 82-84 boats... though only one is shown in the brochure.
Blue combo #1:
Blue combo #2:
I would *think* that Pat's is combo #1, but Im not certain.

very interesting another CC mystery. There was definitely a little more "artistic freedom" back then at the factory.

One problem might be, finding all 3 blues at one location. A low cost way of finding out which is which would be buying half pints.
The only Tri-tone I am quite certain of is the "Tawny" Leather Brown Terra Cotta Sand And it appears that the Terra Cotta has been discontinued.
Also I wouldn't use bondo on a boat. There are other products better suited. You could even make your filler with resin and aerosil.
