I have an '86 Martinique with a 351W in it. The boat is also LPG/propane converted which adds at least a 100lb of weight to the stern for the steel tanks, along with 25yrs worth of soaked foam (yep it's there...) Propane also looses you about 10% power.

Used for skiing, tubes, wakeboards, tubes and running around in. On a 12x13 max rpm in a light boat gave about 40mph.
I have two props: a 12x13 and a 13x13 what is the general consensus as to what would be best?

In Italy we just hit $9.63 a gallon for gas while LPG/Propane is only $4.08. So a huge saving on the fuel bill.

Tom

On such a large boat, you could use the extra diameter of a 13x13. I would guess that something with a little less pitch would be ideal for such a big boat though... 13x12 or 13x11.5.

I'm guessing you've got a 13x12, as that's what I have and it's probably oem. General consensus is that the acme 542 is the way to go. The 542 is 13x11.5. At least one has gone the next size down, i think it was a 13x10.5. I plan on making the switch to the 542 in the not too distant future. Just double check what you have and make sure you've got the clearance for it.

I have the 13x12 on at the moment. A 13" gives about 3/4" clearance, but there is some 'burn' damage on the hull. A 13x11.5 will certainly give better hole performance.

So you had a 13x12 and not a 12x13? Big difference!

Acmes tend to have a good bit of aft rake in their props, so you'll have more clearance with a 13" diameter Acme than the original 13" diameter Federal.
