I am looking to get a trick release in the next few months. What is the best trick release at the moment? Who prefers a mechanical to a rope release, and why?

Thanks

$100 used is pretty steep... but they dont come up often. Ive grabbed a few of that same style for <$50.

You'll need to know what size diameter you need, they make several different sizes for different types of pylons.

Alright trick skiers and show skiers a question regarding the release in the pic. I know it will drop the rope with no tension, but how does it do on a fixed pylon it the skier is to the side of the boat?   We are getting to the point of needing a manual release to learn some new foil tricks that we know will catch the rope I know they make one that attaches with a rope so no swivel needed, but that would mean the rope needs tension for it to work properly.

Honestly, I cannot comment on whether or not they are safe from a side pull...we always pull from right behind the boat so cannot safely comment on that subject. Good question..

I will say the ball bearing ones with the rubber bumper will release with the slightest tension on the ski rope, thus assuming they would release no problem. We will pull a pin for jump act every now and then and it comes out fine, we are not WAY outside the wake though.

In the past I have used a cinch with our beman release.

KW Show Ski Releases are the best right now. They will work fine pulling to the side. Bemmans are great quality, I am not a fan of the swivel head though, they don't release as well to the side. I can get you a new KW single release for $125 shipping.

You could always go with the classic rope release, essentially wrapped around the pylon twice, person falls, spotter lets go.. doesn't get much more basic than that.

Good luck in your search.
