As a native Hoosier (Noblesville/Fishers), I always thought it would be cool to have a reunion on Lake James. I have stayed at the the Pokagan Inn on Lake James a few times over the past year or two. Its a great park, and seems to be a pretty nice lake.

No nautique dealer in Coldwater, Lake James area is where Midwest CC used to be. Pokagon is a nice spot on LJ, Crooked lake is also near, not as big but a fun lake. Captains Cabin is a nice long time place to eat at cooked lake, right on the water.

Guys if you really want to do this just find a spot that would accomodate campers and pick a date. Post the info out and they will come. We would hop over from Chicgo if the weekend is open for us. There are a lot of people from the site in northern Indiana and Michigan area so make it happen.

Don't forget there's also a few Ohio boys who don't mind a drive.
Mark, knowledge and time have very little to do with it, you can do as much or as little as you want. If you don't have a lot of time, just pick a date and a place, then post these instructions: bring whatever you think you'll need, we'll see you there.

If this happens, and it doesn't conflict with our show ski schedule, I'm in. I was at a wedding reception on Lake James. Seemed like a very nice place. If it happens in Coldwater, we could camp at the nudist resort. Just don't schedule anything Aug 18th. There's a Barefoot Nautique reunion (actually the Buckethead Barefoot race) in Grand Rapids Ohio.
Mrinboard, We drive through your hood (and also the Turtle Capital) every year on our way to Warsaw. Lake City Skiers host a show ski tournament every June at Hidden Lake.

http://www.stateparks.com/pokagon.html. This link probably doesn't work, but here is a great place to stay,or camp, it's right on the lake, just not sure where one can leave their boat without pulling it in and out of the water. Maybe I will nose around as I will be up around there this weekend.

I've seen this discussion before about a possible Lake James reunion. It's never taken off though. I agree that Lake James would be a fantastic lake for a get-together though. It's a super clean lake, with a great sand bar, has a campground, has a slalom course and it's a very central location to a lot of mid-westerners.

Maybe, I talked to a guy that works for Dry Dock marina, local Nautique dealer, he suggested Crooked lake, next to Lake James. He felt it was less busy, probably a toss up in my mind as far as that. The marina has dockage for rent on Lake James, there are a lot of hotels in the area and the Pokagon park has camping or rooms at the Potowatamie Inn. Having never been to ny of these events I am not sure what most people do with their boats overnight, the guy I spoke to said he has attended many CCF reunions as he has a relationship with Nautique, he said many attendees pull their boats out of the water overnight. I have spent all of my time on Coldwater lake 30 minutes north, have only seen Crooked and James from the shore, I have been to the Pokagon Park and the Potowatomie Inn.

Dealer support, possibly, but that was not discussed since the person I spoke to was a salesman not the owner. As the name implies Dry Dock is not on the water.

This sounds like a great idea. I'm on Crooked Lake which it's not near a busy as James on the weekends. 3rd Basin on Crooked is great for skiing and they do have a course, but not real clean. Either way I'm sure it be a good turnout, lots of Correct Crafts on the lake just need to get the word out. Count me in. I'm sure Terry at Dry Dock would help it would be good advertisement.

Any more talk about making this happen? Either lake would be good. James does get super busy, though.

I grew up in Angola and spent a lot of time on both James and Crooked.
IMHO: I think James would be a much better choice because of Pokagon State Park. It has a nice CCC era lodge, with more modern rooms in the new wing and very nice campgrounds. After the kids go back to school at the end of August, the lake really slows down.

Hey Guys,
Count me in for a reunion on Lake James. There are 2 viable options for boat launches. First is at Four Corners, (Jimmy's on James, or better known for Tom's Donuts), 300W and Lane 101 Jimmerson Lake. The fee for drop in is now $8 and the ramp was just redone this year. It is really nice and level and grooved. Docks were redone for gas and they even redid the parking lot with lots of car/trailer parking. Second one is just a ramp on Lake Jimmerson with is just a ramp no dock at all. Lake levels are really down, I hope we get some rain here soon.
|

Date Posted: July-16-2012 at 7:27pm
There is also a pay ramp at Northwest Landing Marina that is right across from the main beach and just down from the campground. But it's about 10 miles by car.
The free public launch on Otter Lake is probably the most convenient, if your staying at the park and need to return there with your car. But Otter has a 10mph limit and it will probably take 10-15 minutes to boat back to Snow Lake, 20 to the campground and 25 to the Inn.

Indiana Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society Show
Lake James Classics
The Indiana Chapter of Antique and Classic Boat Society hosted an Antique & Classic Boat and Antique Car Show July 28, 2012. The show was located at the old Boat House Marine on Lake James near the Jimmerson Lake bridge.
Registration is Saturday morning. The show runs from 10-4. For more information about this annual show contact Mike McBride at lakejamesmike@gmail.com or 260-833-1853
The Indiana Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society offers the public to see the antique boats in several venues in Indiana each year. One of the events in held at the old Boat House Marine location on Lake James in the month of July each year.
The boats that are on display are wood and fiberglass and range in ages from the 1940's to the 1970's. Some of these boats will be coming from Indiana, as well as surrounding states. We try to preserve these classics and hope the community enjoys viewing our passion. We encourage the public to talk to the boat owners about their boats and their restoration.
The Lake James show will also showcase local artists who will display and sell their art. The local antique car club has joined us in the past and will be included again this year. We will welcome again the Michiana Antique Outboard Motor Club who will have antique motors on display. Also on the agenda will be food, beverages and live music for everyone's enjoyment.
The boat show is being sponsored by the Lake James Association, Dry Dock Marine Center, Dave's Lake Shack, TLA Signs and The Antique Boat Shoppe. We hope to see you on July 28. Show time is 10-4.
The July event will again be the Lake James show in Angola on July 28. This seems to be a growing event and this year is no exception. Besides the antique boats and cars, the Michiana Antique Outboard Motor Club will be attending. The Angola Art Guild will be showing and selling their art work. There will be food, beverages and music. Anyone wanting to come early are encouraged to do so. We have plenty of dock space in our neighborhood. We are anxious for the day to get here so we can get together with all of you boaters and meet new people with other antique interests. We will be having a get together dinner after the show at our local Italian restaurant. The room is reserved and we need to get a head count before the actual date. Please let us know if you are planning on dining with us!

The boat has had numerous modifications since we purchased it. The main thing was we changed out the engine and dropped in a Ford Racing 392 stroker motor that is 430 horsepower. It definately is nuts to drive it at high speed and I only would do it on calm conditions. As we boat on Lake James that means either early morning or mid week for a speed run. Right now we have to change out the steering cable which we have. Hopefully get it done this Saturday morning.

I'd like to go via boat but not sure how much boat parking will be available. It's tight quarters over there in that channel btwn James & Jimmerson Lake! I'll probably go early either way so I can get on the water after.

I think it would be cool to have one on Lake James, and stay at the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park, or camp at the fantastic campgrounds there. Nice beach at the park too. I know there is a slalom course on one of the three connected lakes there.

Not to be Debbie Downer here, but I made the drive over to Pokagon State Park last month to check it out. It was a nice enough facility, but the problem is it books up a full 2 years in advance. I asked about rooms at the Inn, and they had no more than 5 available on any summer weekend. Same story at the campground, which is separate and has nothing to do with the Inn. They have most summer weekends 100% full.
Maybe Lake James would be OK for a day trip, but I don't see the overnight thing happening.

I would agree. Toss a couple of dates out, and let's see what works best. I know we have like three or four weddings late summer/early fall. But, I will certainly do my best to make it.
This would be a great reunion at Correct Craft's Midwest ancestral home.

I know a few of the members will be at the Buckethead barefoot race, tentatively scheduled for Aug 10th. I would love to attend a reunion, and this would be my best shot at one. Ironically, Brian (aka Buckethead) had his wedding reception at the Pokagan Inn. My wife and I checked in, and then went looking for the Inn's bar. To our dismay, there wasn't one.

If you guy's get something going that is a weekend deal we would definitely be interested, Angola is a bit far for a day trip though.
Would be ideal to find a Lake with a Campground on water with boat launch and hotels nearby.

Just got off the phone with pokagon she said no boat launch. Have to put in on otherside of the lake. Still plenty of sites though.

Look back to last year...many of us have listed other boat ramps to launch depending on where your staying. Lots of new hotels right by the toll road & i69 interchange.

Might want to call Dry Dock, the local CC dealer near Lake James. They help organize a wooden boat show during the Summer at a ramp between Lake James and Snow lake. Lake levels were real low up there last year, not now 7 inches of rain topped everyplace up last week.

Good Idea!! These events are even better when the group can arrange to stay near each other, be it adjacent campsites or the same hotels which usually needs some advanced planning. One of u hoosiers needs to grab the bull by the horns and get er done!!
Woj & Papa, you guys need to drag that 77' up to Green Lake in July, should be at least a couple other Speed Nautiques there you can wrestle with for the top dog spot, lol.

The Buckethead is normally this weekend. Brian usually schedules it the same weekend as Div 1 Show Ski Nationals. We also have done a race in September near Big Rapids known as the Lockwood Challenge (or Run the River). It hasn't run in a couple of years (though it might be resurrected this year).

From Orlando to Pokagon State Park (Lake James, Angola IN) would take about 24 hours, 1134 miles. From Pokagon State Park to Kokomo IN would be 3 hours, 147 miles.
Hope this helps.
