So I noticed after this winter when I hooked up the battery the 3 warning lights on the dash would come on. When I actually started and ran the boat they would be off but if the boat ignition was off and the battery was hooked up they would stay on. Which was annoying because i was worried it would run the battery dead so I left the battery unhooked.
I finally figured out if I unplugged that little alarm module, I think thats what it is, they would stay off. Do I need a new alarm or is something just hooked up wrong? I have read the wiring diagram but I still dont really get how those lights/alarm work. Can someone enlighten me to help troubleshoot this issue. Here are pictures of what I mean.

my alarm has been disconnected for a while due to a similar issue. i just keep an eye on temp and oil pressure and don't worry about it...
------------- As far as I can tell, I'm not quite sure...

The alarm modules never were the greatest and certainly not reliable. Chris's (SNobsessed) son actually built one and tried to improve it but to my knowledge it wasn't very successful.

hmm, so you dont think it could be another wiring issue? I mean while the boat is running its fine, its only when the key is off. I am ok with leaving it unplugged as I am hawkish on the gauges anyway. I never trusted it or really knew if it worked. It would be nice for other people who drive (my wife) who are too busy talking to watch gauges.

Justin - If it used to work & now it doesn't, most likely it is the alarm module. It has some old school op amps in it that are not very robust circuits. Just leave it unhooked.
Please have your wife watch where she is going, not the gauges - last year I was hit by a driver not looking forward. I am glad he hit me & not the kids floating downstream behind me in inner tubes!
By the way Pete - the project to rebuild that alarm circuit sparked interest in electronics for my son. It is now finals week for him in his freshman year of EE. Best $100 I ever spent (on the module rebuild) even thought it didn't work well.

Ya well you know I yell at her. I dont think she would hit another boat, I do most of the driving.

Here's an oldie, but a goodie. Did some alarm system rework myself http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=17468&KW=alarm&title=temp-volt-oil-span-classhighlightalarm-span-adjustment" rel="nofollow - Alarm System
