Happy Father's Day!
I ordered a new RWP and it should be in the mail today. My old one does not look too bad though.
The question is if I should invert the RWP and what to do with hose routing. Also I see post that all fords use 1" hose. The PO used something like 2" because of all these plumbing fittings I guess.
Reccomendations are appreciated..

Greg, The double street elbow was the typical set up. Since the inlet and outlet face the same direction, you need to use the elbows even if you invert the pump. However, leave it plumbed as the original since it keeps water in the pump. If inverted, some of the water over time would drain backwards out the pick up through hull.

Pete,
I replaced the impeller with what should be an identical Sherwood 09959K and I cannot get this thing to suck water up. I initially tried my fake a Lake which at least worked on the last one with pressure. I even tried the bucket inside the boat and it would not pick up water.
I confess to putting on a new hose and fitting on the pump, but changed it back to original to troubleshoot.
I replaced the impeller and placed the fins in the same direction as the old one and used a new gasket. I did not prime the pump or anything.
I did get water to circulate by placing the garden hose directly into the suction hose of the pump. That proves nothing of course other than water will circulate.
Any ideas will be appreciated..

all,
I have scouring the forum and see that I need to check for air leaks on the suction side and generally any air leaks.
Will do all these things... and report back

You got a new RWP or replaced the impeller in the old one? I ask because that pump body needs some TLC. Yes, check for air leaks as air will pull quicker than water.

Just a new impeller. The outside of the pump looks bad but inside was real bright and shiny. I am just thinkIng I may not have gotten a good seal on the pump.

That's what I was alluding to. I don't know that particular pump, but they usually have a paper or O-ring seal.

Did you clean the gasket surface of the body and cover? Per your posted picture, it looks pretty bad and also looks like someone used a gasket compund on it. A flat file works great. You should not have to use a compound.

Greg | Greg, There have been reported problems with the Sierra brand impellers. Stick with the OEM. The one I remember was at the SJRR two years ago. Someone had just put the aftermarket impeller in and couldn't get it to work. They played with it for some time and then Art Cozzier pulled out a brand new Sherwood impeller. It was installed and the RWP worked great. What they saw was the Sierra didn't have the annular seal rings on each side of the impeller.

Pete,
Yes, it looks pretty bad, but I did clean it up pretty good. Not to a shine, but really soooth. I remembered that you had said to stick with OEM and I did get a Sherwood OEM impeller. The paper gasket is almost see through though. No O ring on this one here. I don't really like that very much at all. I purchased a two pack and still have the old one.
It's coming apart this afternoon and I'll find out what I have done wrong.

Pete,
Evidently my pump likes the taste of impellers. The new one was only on the boat yesterday and it looks worn in the same spots and the same way as the old one.
It may be that I just have cavitation inside the pump from these rough spots or whatever is causing the damage.
Could this come from a dry pump?
Or should I be looking for a rough spot(s) inside the pump?

Greg, It doesn't take more than a couple minutes of running to trash an impeller without water/lubrication. Yes, look for rough spots but also when you put a new impeller in, put some non drying lube on it like Vaseline.

Thanks alot Greg, now I have this picture in my head of Pete in his local "Sam Drucker" general store up by his house in Wisconsin asking for some gum,a pack of Camels,a tube of KY jelly,5 bucks of quick pick tickets and a 6 pack of Schlitz
