Hi All,

My 98 Sport GT40 (658hrs) has an intemittent stalling issue all of a sudden. We use it for hours skiing the slalom course with no issues it runs very cool and perfect. This past Saturday we skied and she ran for over 3 hours perfectly. I always lift the engine hatch to let her cool off while we pull the course in and did so this past Saturday. When we were finished I started her up to head back to our dock got up on plane and about a minute or 2 later she sputtered out and lost power. This is the 4th time this year this has happened, first time after skiing and the remedy has been lift the engine hatch for about 10 mins and after about 5 tries she starts and runs perfectly again. All routine maintenance is done throughout the year and I have a new raw water pump, relays, fuel filter, battery etc. and I use 89-93 octane. This happened yesterday later in the day when we were out again. We were idiling around the lake for about 45 mins and then sat and drifted for about 2 hours or so. Started her up to go in due to storms rolling in got going about 25 mph or so and then she sputtered out and stopped. We sat for about 10 mins and after 5 or so attemps she started right up and ran perfect again. I am sure I am not the only one that has had this issue and hope I can get some help or good insight here before I decide to put it on the trailer and take it to the PCM mechanic. I appreciate the feed back and help here.

I probably sound like a broken record with this, but it has happened to me twice in 3 years. Check your antisiphon valve. Ethanol blended gas tends to gum these up pretty easily. The boat will start and run for a bit, but will quickly die when you give it the gas. Your symptoms aren't identical to what I have experienced, but they are close. Mine would start up much quicker with no venting of the motorbox required. It's a cheap part and an easy fix, but quite a nuisance. Didn't help that my boat sat up a lot last year due to low water levels.
