Thoughts on preventatively replacing trailer leaf springs? Especially on a trailer that's, er, 30 years old?

If so, what are your favorite suppliers and is there any trick to replacing them (aligning, etc.)?

Good thinking. Ive never had a trailer tire fail... but Ive broken 2 springs and another spring bolt. Measure your length and see if theyre oddball like the CC trailers... its not fun trying to source an odd sized spring in the middle of nowhere.

Install is a piece of cake, its pretty straightforward.

Surf that # on the net. I'm on the laptop now--- I've got the other possibilities on my home PC.

$5 says he's asking about a mastercraft trailer, Marty.

Maybe Pete can help, he has one under his dunphy.

Tim,
Yup, I'm with you on this one. We sometimes forget Joel's new boat/trailer. I put mono leaf springs on the trailer years ago. I even downsized the rate from 3500 to I believe 3000. After that, the trailer didn't run like a brick down the road.

I've had good luck with Detroit/Eaton Spring.
They have a kajillion blue prints and can duplicate
ANY spring / u-bolt you show them.

Joel, you are familiar with http://www.spring-align.com/" rel="nofollow - Spring-Align in Palatine on Rt.12 if you need custom ones made, or off the shelf replacements correct?
