Glad to see this great forum for Correct Craft owners and do-it-yourselfers. I'm a first time "CC" owner; just purchased an '85 Southwind bowrider with a 454 ci motor. Its a solid, low hours boat thats's been pretty well cared for. I'm planning to learn to do basic maintainence myself as I go. Know of the Nautique dealers north and south of Birmingham, AL, but looking for reliable, reasonably priced Bham area marine mechanic if anyone can recommend one to do a basic once over to get me started.
Also would welcome a recomendation for a source for the following items (or used parts if someone has):
-fixed trim tabs that are a good fit for this 20' boat (found the hydraulic type but believe there are may be stainless or alloy fixed position sets that are good for this model).
-electronic ignition conversion part(s) for a Mallory YL670AV points system
-rub rail (preferrably black rubber/vinyl w/rope insert like the OEM type)

The electronic conversion kit for your YL series distributor is available from Summit through their online catalog. The link is http://store.summitracing.com. The part number is PNX-9ML-181 and Summits price is $109.95.

Welcome, you buy a boat for something to keep you busy.
You would hear " My wife took the boat to the mechanic when I was at work!" if it ended up there most the time.
The point conversion with either Pertronix or Mallory is worth the effort, and then the next 20 things are going to be good too.

I've got ab '80 Martinique that I bought without the engine even in it. I live in West Tn. and have a place on Pickwick which is around 3 hrs. from B'ham give or take. A Mercedes mechanic in Adamsville, Tn. (30 min. from Pickwick) who has two Mastercrafts set me up. He is an avid skier/barefooterand is a hell of a nice guy. Jeff I just purchased a 1984 20' O/B Southwind a few months back. Mine was not in as good condition as yours. I am also from Birmingham and took mine to Alabama Marine repair on Highway 150.
They replaced my floor as mine had set in previous owners yard with the plug in and filled up with water. Duh!!!
They also converted mine to electronic ignition and did a tune-up. They did a great job on everything and it cranks great and idles like a new boat. I am in the process of getting the interior redone to install by spring. Many hours buffing but it is really taking shape now. It will then go to Lake Martin.

Gang I'm looking at a Southwind 20 I think to buy in west tenn. It has a 351. pleasure craft. I cannot get fire to the dist. or the plugs, has points. also where in the model no on the boat does it tell the year. Also the motor has eldebrock carb is the stock. I thought correct craft came with holly. thx
