Checked the prop shaft on my 1970 Torino today because it was clearly out of whack when I turned it by hand. Have about .050" runout at the opening in the hull outside of the boat. At the v-drive it almost appears that the shaft or coupler is running eccentric. The stuffing box is wobbling as the shaft turns and when you turn it the trans rocks up and down a little bit. It turns easily but it's going to vibrate. I need to pull the coupler loose from the drive to see exactly what I need to do. Where do I go about getting parts if I need them? Has a Velvet Drive 1.51 v-drive in it.

New shafts are made to what ever size you need,you will just have to measure the one you have.

Call Billy at MyCorrectCraftParts. He will steer you in the right direction. If the transmission is moving when rotating the prop, then the mounts must be loose or the stringers rotted.

What not try and have it straightened? That's what I did this summer and mine is perfect at a huge cost savings.

Sorry, it's the v-drive that's moving slightly, not the trans. The boat has some rot around the fuel tank but the engine/drive mounts appear to be solid. Haven't pulled it apart yet to see where the issue actually lies. Thanks for the parts info.

One of the few topics I feel like I can comment on evem a little bit are stringers. My boat is 37 years old, has 750 original hours on it, garage kept its entire life and my stringers were rotten. Just the way they were done. Check them out more carefully before you discount them as being "solid". If its rotten under the tank, I would bet there is other rot as well. Sorry.
