Can't seem to find a walk through description of how to remove transmission and bell housing for replacement of damper on 99 nautique. Best way to disconnect rear brackets? Tricks to support transmission? How much torque on damper bolts. Hoses to disconnect? Any suggestions welcome!

Unbolt prop shaft coupling. Unbolt rear engine mounts and loosen front mount rod clamps. Place small bottle jacks under rear of exhaust manifold to tilt aft end of engine up. Unbolt bell housing and pull trans and bell at the same time.

Use SAE grade 5 torque specs for the bolts. Charts are found on line if you don't have one of the reference books such as the Machinists Handbook or the Pocket Ref by Thomas Glover. BTW, if you don't have the Pocket Ref, next time you are at the hardware get one. They are very handy.

Unbolt rear mounts @ transmission or hull? How much lifting of rear of engine seems to work best? Do transmission hoses usually need to be removed or can cooler be loosened to provide slack to slip transmission back? Thanks for the tips!

Unbolt tranny mounts from the boat (stringers). Lift up enough to take the weight off the mounts. Take the cooler off with the tranny by unbolting the bracket from the engine.

Great advice. I am planning to have mine rebuilt soon. If you get to yours first, documenting what you did would be great, maybe pictures and pitfalls for those who follow. If I get to mine first, I will do the same.

Ok guys job is done. Reason for replacement was transmission noise that sounded like gears rattling when in gear or reverse at 650 RPM. When 750+ RPM noise would go away. Purchased new upgraded Damper from Vince @Discount Imboard (www.skidim.com). Problem 100% fixed.
-Remove exhaust parts from manifold to muffler
-Disconnect driveline and slid back
-Disconnect Water intake at hull fitting
-Disconnect Transmission cooler cooling hose and unbold transmission cooler mounting bolt
-Unbolt rear motor mount from boat at alumimum mounting cradle
-Loosen front motor mount rod clamps
-Place bottle jacks under manifolds and raise rear of engine how ever much makes you job easier.
-Place 2x4 from gunnel to gunnel and use strap or other to support transmission
-Remove Bellhousing bolts (ECM plate will come off)
-Remove 2 bolts from back of flywheel plate that go into back (and bottom)of bellhousing
-Remove Starter
-Slide transmission/bellhousing back
-Replace Damper
Everthing in reverse to re-assemble.
Took me about 5 hours, if I did it again might be able to do it in 3-4

Great sequence. I might add that before removing starter, best to unhook battery.

I know it is obvious to us, but someone else might get fireworks if they do that the sequence verbatim.

Great points. I disconnected battery before I started project. Since I left rear mounts attached to transmission alignment was close but I did adjust a little to dial in

How close was the alignment after you got the trans back in?

Thanks for posting the procedure. The transmission in my 89 SN will come out sometime this fall for a rebuild. I am assuming the damper should be replaced at the same time no matter what?
