My pylon is a little bit loose - it has about 1/4" give when I pull it to port side. Can anyone tell me how the pylon is mounted/secured in a 77 and how to troubleshoot? I did some searching on the forum but didn't see anything for this year/era boat. Thanks! |

it sits in a cup glassed to the hull and bolts to the floor with four bolts. Not a lot of support there. | Thanks HatterBee. Man I'm hoping that rot is not the issue, the floor seems solid all around and the engine mounts are tight, but it's an all original boat so I reckon it's a good possibility. Do you have any photos of your 77 that show this? |

While not quite the same boat I'm sure the construction is much the same,after all they are both wood and only 8 years apart. Mine was bad too seems all the water on the floor must try to drain thru there and start the rot.I replaced it a number of years ago when I pulled out the foam and is still in excellent shape. This picture was just taken the other day and I just put the floor in yesterday so I can't measure the size,I'm guessing 2x10. Stop!!! Before you start rippin carpet, open the motor box and inspect the pylon-hull-fitting first. On my personnal boat, the hull fitting had severe slop. Due to the P/O using one of those 6 foot aluminum Lightning Rods. |

Thanks Dr CC. The cup on the bottom looks solid and I've determined that the plywood horizontal/surface support has a crack in it towards the driver's side, which is allowing just a little play before the bottom of the pylon contacts the base. ------------- '93 Ski Nautique Black/Teal '77 Ski Nautique. My Tique had the same slop but it was due to CC not using some decent non rusting components.
